Ok Guys Not the most exciting topic,
As I have stated before I am not the most experanced pistol shooter, Though I hate shooting off the bench, mainly cause I never can seem to get my self locked in, I seem to shoot better offhand, Share your secrets to a good rest setup for the range, Shooting revolvers, all barrels are 4 to 5 inches.
Need somthing I can breakdown and set up,If there is a product out there you recomend, Somthing you would construct, open to suggestions,
Thanks Matt

Hard to beat a sandbag. Just be sure to cover it with something durable like leather or heavy denim as the blowby will eat up the bag. I just nestle the revolver frame into the bag and hold the handle with my hands only, nothing under the butt. Make sure to check your zero off-hand as resting on bags does affect POI somewhat.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I usually sandbag-it also.
There is an actuall "rest" out there that is only around $30. I know Cabela's has them and a friend of mine has it and seems to like it

Funny story, when my father-n-law and I first got into shooting handguns we had ZERO experience. Every year to sight in our deer rifles we'd just set a few of my mother-n-laws couch pillows on the bench and have at it. The barrels ended 20 inches past the pillow so it worked fine. Not so with 7 inch barrel revolvers! You should have seen it...feathers everywhere haha
The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

I use my backpack. I have a cabelas hunting pack with a leather bottom. I keep a fleece jacket rolled up in the bottom and it makes a perfect shooting rest. I use my pack in the field and believe that if you practice how you will shoot in the field there will be no surprises. I have put a few thousand rounds over this pack and it has held up well. I did however a few years ago get in a hurry while going after a deer and didn't quite get the revolver on the leather all the way and it blew a nice little hole in one of the outside pockets. Nothing a piece of cloth and a needle couldn't fix.

I tried the setup last fall that Larry Rodgers uses successfully. I added the rear support arm to my Bog-Pod. This support is used to cradle your forearm in and helps to steady the shot. I use this setup when I'm in a ground blind or setup in a stationary position. When I am stalking or still hunting, I like to use my old standard Stoney Point Stix. They are very stable and I can set them up in seconds.

Sorry for the late reply, I finally had a chance to get back to the range and shoot a few off the bench in between shooting a brick of 22. I went down the route of muck bags and it made a big diffrence.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
Matt
