So I'm looking to by a new pistol for hunting, I've been a rifle hunter all my life and I want to do something new. I've decided I want a .44mag and for me the choice is between two guns

The Bisley Hunter Super Blackhawk, or the a Super Redhawk.

I have a few questions about how the two guns compair, I doubt I'd be using the DA of the redhawk so thats not a big deal. What is the differance in size/weight between the two and how does that effect the way they shoot + carrying them for a day in the field.

I have a feeling it really just comes down to personal pref, but sense I'm bored at work I figured id ask =)

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide

*edit* dangit forgot to mention ive used the super redhawk with a 7.5 barrel, wondering how that compairs to the bisley hunter tho because no gun shops around here have one I can handle

The grip angles of both are quite similar. I had a Bisley Hunter in 41, but didn't like the scope location on the barrel so it went down the road. My SRH is in 480R and it is the most easy shooting big bore handgun I have ever shot, with the Hogue Tamer grip. The SRH weighs a bit more than the Hunter but the sizes aren't much different, and the scope is in a better location on the SRH, IMO.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I had the Bisley Super Black Hawk Hunter and I have the SRH 44mag 7.5 barrel and Tamer grips. The Hunter kept banging my middle finger every time I shot it and it got pretty sore. It may have been the way I was gripping it but I definitely like the SRH much more. For me, I also shoot the SRH much better and its a blast to shoot.

Best thing to do would be to handle them both...shoot them both. They are two different animals. I went with the Super blackhawk hunter because I enjoyed the way the grip rolled in my hand during recoil vs. the straight back slap of the redhawk.

It is all preference, neither will kill more deer than the other in the hands of the same marksman.

This is the best advice. You should try them both.

I shoot the scoped SBH Bisley Hunter. It feels okay, is accurate, nice trigger. My load is 270 grain speer golddot softpoint over 21 grains H110. It doesn't beat me up too badly actually. Groups are 1" at 100 yds. but I have to say my rifles shoot much better and more comfortably.

I have both a SBH and SRH in 44mag. You are getting great advice, they really are two different beasts...

Don't let the scope location for the SBHH dissuade you from that particular gun. I didn't like the default scope location either but put a Weigand Combat scope mount on it (no drill, uses the stock mounts) and was able to push my red dot back a bit so it is more over the cylinder. I think it makes the gun much less nose heavy and generally a pleasure to shoot.

I have both a 44 mag SBH Bisley Hunter and a 480 Ruger SRH and like them both, however as others have said, they are different animals and feel differently in the hand. I agree, that for a hunting situation the DA and swing out cylinder is a non issue.

That being said, it personally prefer the feel of the Bisley Hunter a bit more over the SRH. I really wish they made one in 480 Ruger. That would probably be my ideal gun.

I also use the weigand base on my Ruger Single-Six Hunter which is very similar to the SBHH and my SRH.

Thanks for all the info everyone!!

I have handled the SRH a few times, and a normal blackhawk, none of the gun stores where I live have the SBH hunter in stock so I am out of luck on that.

I think I'll be getting the SBH Bisely hunter, I think that will be everything I want my first hunting hand gun to be.

Cant waint for deer season this year!

If you can shoot them both, side by side, that would be your best bet.

They are, two entirely different guns. The Bisley Hunter would probably save you some weight, if that is a concern. It may also be harder to find a holster the the Bisley Hunter.

My 7.5" SBHH w/ 4x Leupold fits in the same Uncle Mikes Sidekick Shoulder rig as my 10" Contender w/2x Leupold. Leather is nice but in the rainy forests of the Northwest, synthetic is the only way to go. Im always sopping wet during our hunting seasons.Check out Midwayusa.com for good selection.I also have a Bianchi Bandolero with padded shoulder strap which takes those guns unscoped. Its is very comfortable and easy to puton and remove it probably comes in scoped version too.I find the guns ride more to the left side which is very comfortable.4inch 629 usually carries crossdraw on the belt in a Galco holster.

Once you've figured out which brand and model you want do a search on Amazon.com you can get some good deals there and not have to deal with the backorders

I have said that forever. Try a grip first. I do not like a Bisley and a hog leg should NEVER "roll" in the hand. Let any grip slip in the hand and you just make noise.
