Howdy, I am new here and am impressed. I have hunted off and on with a handgun for 24 years, one of my next quests is to take a Pronghorn with a hangun, any advice on where to go/how to do it? Thanks

Welcome Aboard!! I've never hunted pronghorns...closest I have ever been to that was getting surrounded by a farmers goats while shooting groundhogs!! I can say that from all thr reports I have heard, you had better have a set of shooting sticks to get above ground level scrub or a pack to shoot from and know how to use it well.

What do you plan taking for a firearm?

I have only hunted pronghorn here in oregon and only with a rifle. we have good herds but it is on a drawing with preference points and success rates avg 1 in 9 years. we have some nice goats but it will take while to get a tag.

I hunted a couple of years ago with Table Mountain Outfitters in Wyoming. I used a Encore rifle. I took one at 205 yards. We did see a few closer but they were smaller ones. The dead line to apply in Wyoming is March 15 but they have alot of Antelope where I hunted.

I've taken several antelope here in WY with handguns. Mostly spot and stalk, but water holes work good too.

WY has a pistol/muzzle loader hunt in area 107 that usually starts Aug 20th. Spooky antelope but with enough stalks you can connect. Long shoots are common.

I have taken all but one of my antelope in eastern Colorado. Don't have the GMU's handy. But all of where I hunted in private porperty so you would nned to get permission first. Wyoming is likley the easist place to get hooked up.

I have hunted Antelope here in Montana for 23 years. Some with contender and some with rifles ranging from a 45-70 Sharps to a Savage 10 in 300 WSM. Neumerous other cal. One goat fell to the Contender in 7X30 Waters at 250 Yds. One fell to the 45-70 at 25 yds. Two years nothing was taken. They are a wiley critter that can run 45 MPH on 3 good legs and generaly run for a min of 2 miles when they start running. Area 700 in Montana has the best results and the ranchers there are pretty nice at giving permission. Montana also has block management areas marked and available to all hunters. You might want to search www.fwp.mt.gov. All that being said they are great sport to hunt and a great challange with a shooter. Good luck.

XP and i have hunted in WY together once, and in CO frequently for antelope. I also have taken kids to WY antelope hunting, and we've always filled our tags 100%. They're probably 1 of the easiest of big game to hunt with firearms-- generally speaking-- especially if u learn to crawl for them once spotted and stalked reasonably close. Use a laser for ranging, and if hunting with a plex reticle-equipped scope (or ballistic reticle), know what the trajectory zeros are for those addtl. stadia to 300 yds. or so. A lot of guys go the guided route, but it's not necessary if u do your homework. Begin with contacting the DOW offices in each state your interested in, and go from there. Good Luck.
