Ok well I'm new to handgun hunting and I recently bought a old style contender in 223. My question is we're can I get another barrel. Everywere I look says item has been discontinued. I'm trying to get either a 44 mag or 45-70 for Louisiana's primitive weapon season. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

the old style will work with the new barrels but the three best places to check are EABCO, Midway, and Natchez. I have 44 mag barrel for sale but it's an old one with the removable choke for use with 44 shot shells as well as standard rounds when removed. It's ribbed so you'd need to use the iron sights.

The thing with Ed is, he has a lot more stuff than he has on the website. It is hard for him to keep it up to date. Give him a call if looking for something even if you don't see it, he might have it or know who does.

Thanks for the info Natchez has the 44mag and Ed shows both. Also on those two calibers for now it would just be iron sites. I'm kinda leaning to the 44 but a 45-70 would be pretty cool to have.

Split the difference and get a 45LC?

Do you load?

No I don't reload yet. I have been thinking about it do I just don't have the extra space to do it. The only barrels I have seen in 45lc is the 45/410 with the ventilated rib. How would factory 45 loads work on deer?

If you are limited to factory fodder, the 44 would be your best bet.

If and when you decide to take the plunge, look at the .357 Maximum. It is the reason I started loading.

What are the firearms restrictions for the primitive season there?

It's a .35 or bigger with and the firearm has to have an external hammer

I live in Louisiana too Mudmixer. I am not sure if you looking for handgun barrels or rifle barrels. The primitive weapons specificies rifles for primitive weapon season. I petitioned the wildlife and fisheries but was told maybe later after the breech rifles were legalized.
