It is hot and humid summertime here in Georgia but some exciting progress is being made toward the antelope hunt this fall. My tag arrived in the mail, the dates are set, and we have booked our flight. Just as importantly I have prepared myself and my gun. I made my Contender my own with some pink splashed grips I painted myself. I have gotten away from the bench and am practicing laying down and shooting off a backpack. The range I shoot at is 150 yards and coke cans aren't safe. I will keep posting with any news or pictures.

Good looking pistol. What caliber is your Contender? What unit did you draw?

I have always wanted to do something like that in neon blue or burgundy. I have a XP w/HS stock in Burgunday and black webbing.

Good luck on your hunt. I shot every goat I took in Wyoming off of my pack. I put a jacket and some other stuff that was light but firm in my pack and lots of water. Take good binoculars and range finder. Distance is decieving out there in the open.

If you're going pronghorn hunting my suggestion would be to make sure you're at the range on the most windy days you can find between now and then and practice in every strong crosswind you can out to a couple hundred yards.

What Gary said +1 and if you haven’t already packed them you might want to consider taking knee and elbow pads that thorns & cactus can’t penetrate, as well as, a puncture proof ground cloth for when you’re just going to wait them out, if their feeding in your direction.

You only need to tangle with that environment once and you’ll never forget the “little things” back home or in your tent/motel room.

PinkTC, what town are you going to be close to in WY? Have spent alot of time in Douglas and Gillette (eastern WY). Remember what the guys said about the wind--it can be brutal at times.

If you are hunting North of Wright or South of Gillette, give me a holler.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement guys. I will be hunting the Durham ranch, home of the HHI antelope hunt, just north of Wright. This will be my second visit to Wyoming. My husband hunted in 2010; this time I have the tag. I will be shooting a 30-30. The gun has one antelope already.
