While I am not a dedicated varmit or predator hunter, I do have occasions to dispatch said creatures, mostly at night. I have recently ordered a kit (one shooting light & one handheld scan light) of "Wicked Lights." I now have a green one mounted on a 22 mag rifle. I have not yet had to opportunity to use them on a varmit, but was using them to look at deer behind our house last night.

These lights are only 9" long & weigh very little. Of course, my next thought is "which revolver" to try. If any of you use such lights on your revolvers, I would like to hear from you.

WT,

I purchased the Elusive Wildlife kill lights earlier this year to use when hog hunting at night. So far I've been using them on my scoped revolvers in 41, 44 and 454 (and T/C single shots)

Elusive Wildlife Kill Lights

I have both the green XLR 250 and 100 - the 100 is an incredibly bright light for such a small package. Comes with rechargeable batteries - another plus. If I were going to use primarily for predators (fox, 'yotes, etc) I would have opted for the red lens. But the hogs show up GREAT in green.

I've also run them on scoped AR's - not fair.
;\)

The rapid scope Mounts they supply with the kits work great for a quick mount solution to the tube.

SCHunter,

That is the same light that I just bought. I got two lights & bulbs to change colors, chargers, etc. At the moment I have one of them red & the other green. I opted to put the ring with the rail mount on the my rifle scope & the "weaver" style ring on the light. Makes for a very solid mounting. I was having trouble with the rapid mount until I put tape on my scope. I think that I like the more permanent setup better.

SCHunter,

With the light mounted on your revolver, does it change the balance a lot (make it very unwieldy)?

On the little rifle it is OK. But I am curious about the impact on a revolver. BTW -- I ordered three more rail & weaver style rings for them & three more lights. Need one here, need one for my wife's 22 S&W down at the farm if it is not too unwieldy, and one for a bigger revolver for me (probably a 41). Plus, I like the extra "handheld scan" lights (one for me and one for her).

This weekend she had a family reunion down there. Had some older folks using walkers there. She was using my scan light (green) as a flashlight to help them get around in the yard. LOL

WT,

Not too bad as far as balance - but I'm using the Rapid Mount directly over top of the scope so I don't get any abnormal rotation. And I've been mounting them towards the rear of the scope so it doesn't get too front heavy.

I prefer to use this mount
Rapid Mount

But I have used the "shotgun mount' as well and may be inclined to try that model below the barrel as it attaches via Velcro.

And mine double as flashlights as well - somehow I've misplaced 2 flashlights since January.

I am interested in how they hold up with heavy handgun recoil.
Batteries have a lot of inertia and could slam into the diode drive board or if a bulb, break it.

SC,

The mount that you are using is the one that I was having trouble getting it to stay vertical on my scope. After I put tape on the scope, it held OK. The more permanent ring for the scope with the rail & the "weaver" style ring for the light seem much more solid on my rifle.

The rapid mount has the consequential advantage of being easy to move from one gun to another easily. May have to try it again on a revolver.

I've used the Elusive Wildlife lights (both XLR 250 and 100) on a number of hunts now. We hunt almost exclusively at night where I hunt hogs in North Carolina and they work well. Hog Heaven Outfitters is selling their own version of these lights (in red and green) and the kits are less expensive than Elusive Wildlife's and they have someting I really appreciate and that is a charger you can use in your car. I used their light on the last two hogs I killed down there a couple of months ago.

Recoil has no effect on them. They are stoutly built flashlights, basically. Besides, they are usually subject to one maybe two shots at a time in a hunting situation.

Do these lights cause a point of impact change by changing the way the gun recoils?

Whit,

The kit that I bought had both AC & DC chargers for the batteries plus a charger that plugs directly into the light without requiring that the batteries be removed.

Not the two I have. Odd.

Not that I have noticed, Darrell. I have experienced no adverse effects, but I use lots of grip tension to keep them from moving too much when on a rest.

This is the kit that I ordered. I may have also included an extra item or two.

Whit,
So your sights are not lit by anything? Do you just use the dark outline of them against the lit target?

As long as there is light at the source of your target, iron sights work well.

WT,

I pulled up your light kit - it's a different light (and manufacturer) than the ones I have. Looks a bit larger as well, which may be the reason the rapid mount wouldn't stabilize it on your scopes without tape. My smaller light locks up tight on the scope.

That big light is good for 300 yards. It absolutely lights up the night, that's why I use the bigger light so often over the smaller one I have. This is even more critical when I use open iron sights. What tape are you talking about? I just use the solid mount,

Whit - the light that WT is using looks to be larger than the XLR 250. Not by Elusive Wildlife.

He had to put tape on his scope tube to get the Rapid Mount to work correctly.

Sounds good. It is hard to hold batteries in place.

SCHunter,

Yes, I now see that they are two different brands. I believe that mine is 9" long & the 250 is 7". The smaller one might be better for revolvers.

And the XLR 100 is about 6" long and PLENTY bright for nighttime revolver ranges. Since you have all the other accessories (which appear to be compatible), you could purchase the XLR100 by itself and be home free!

(It's about the same size as my Surefire G2's - I'll see if I can take a size comparison photo this week and send it to you)

I've used the XLR 100 a number of times, but I prefer the green daylight the 250 produces!

Not revolvers and not search lights… LOL
However, I have shot quite a few coons under my stand with my TC’s and a 2 or 4 “D” Maglight with a red leans cut to fit it. They don’t even know you are there…

I also have used the 2 “D” Maglight on my Bow set up as a stabilizer. With the added black light on the pins it will shoot lights out in pitch black…

I've got 4 130W 6" lamps on the front of my truck that work excellent. I shoot vermin and rattlers with them all the time

Never mounted anything on my gun though, except my AK's.

I just received my last order. The Elusive Wildlife Technologies M250 light is about 2" shorter than the Wicked Lights M400. However, there is relatively little difference in weight.

I will mount the 250 on a revolver this evening & see how it handles. I think I will try the quick mount first. If I do not like it, I will install the more permanent setup using the rings. I also have a 15" Encore 223 bbl that might be a permanent home for one of these.
