I am trying to get everything lined up for deer season now. As it stands the handguns I will hunt with this year are:

Encore 30-06
Ruger .44 SP bisley
Glock 21SF .45 Super
Khanke .54

I might add a few more but these have the least kills on them. I am going to switch the scope on the Encore back to the 4X from the 2X. We can kill 303 deer here per season so I should get kills on all of them. Probably going to take 10 or so for hunters feeding the hungry. Should be a good year. reflex264

You might have noticed that there isn't a .380 on the list. ;-)

I shot today. My T/C Encore 7mm08 was the first to make the cut for 2012--performed well and will be one of my top choices for Alabama. Next up will be a session with a couple of T/C Encore .454 Casulls and a T/C SSK 45/70 for Illinois and Kentucky.

That's one thing you guys back there have over the west, here it's at best two deer a year but normally one and that's assuming your successful.

We actualy have a over population problem here. I have to shoot deer every year on depradation permits. Very nasty job. We have to do it when the temps are 90-100 so saving the deer is nearly impossible. reflex264

I have thought about a 7-08 barrel but haven't done it. I have a few friends that use them and love them. reflex264

My plan is to only use two this year -- .45 Colt and .500 Maximum.

Thanks to the handgun proliferation in the safe (spontaneous multiplication or curse of several of the members here?), I am blessed with too many choices
\:\)

I wanted to do the full Freedom lineup for big game last year (41, 44, Casull scoped and unscoped, 475 and 500WE), and checked off 4 of the 6 boxes. Single shots got in the way of achievement.

So I could attempt to repeat the FA lineup, but I still have several single shots that want to play. Namely a 6.5/284 XP in the works and a 257JDJ and 6.5JDJ that need action. Oh yeah, that 8 3/8" 686 needs to be broken in. Looks like the swine population might take a beating on my way to fair distribution across the handgun inventory. Oh yeah - it's already started

srh .44 mag and nmbh .357, would like to take a doe with the .357. Would like to bow hunt this year but i'm house shopping and moving will cut into my practice time. I won't take a bow out unless i have enough practice time, it's only fair to the deer, their out there 365 24/7! Abit tougher with a recurve.

Sell a gun? Hush your mouth with that nonsense. Nope - still got that one too. She's lonely and wants to play.

As if you couldn't tell, I have a problem. Is it any surprise that I'm posting from outside a gun shop right now?! (can't think of a better way to spend lunchtime)

We are gonna try! My brother is coming for sure, and hasn't decided yet if he is going to hunt or film...

I told him he should do what he thinks will be the most fun for him, but... deep down... I sure hope he decides to film!

I'll have a video camera with either way, but the quality will be proffesional if he is filming.

Nice bucks and guns, MN Hunter!

Just curious how your blackpowder regs are written. Several years ago I pushed for BP Pistols to be legal for BP season here in Colorado; but in response to my efforts they only legalized them for rifle seasons!

How much sense does that make? Go figure.

Thanks Guys!

Gregg, Wow. Just gos to show how clueless the law makers can be. Don't they know a ML pistol is MORE of a challange??

In MN black powder pistols are legal during the ML season. BP revolvers would not be legal during the ML season, but are legal during the gun season.

Oh yeah, I'm stuck bein' a one gun fella for now. Maybe if i get real lucky, I can find a few deer that dont know I'm just shootin' em with a 44? Lol. Next year, if all goes well, I will have a little bigger gun, with a little more reach ti add into rotation.

Well...Not for deer season, but...I've got a virgin M97 22lr/mag that will need broke in on squirrels before deer season opens...

...then there's the M97 45lc I got last year that didn't claim a prize...

...if I get drawn for an Illinois firearm permit, I'll be taking the M83 454 for some big Buck action; I hope...

...and if I get the M97 45lc broke in, I'll probably give the M83 44mag a little field time...

...and then there's the other stuff in the safe....just to many to show favortism....SCHunter, you're not alone...LOL....AND you and Darrel H have got me looking at Smith's now.....Just Terrible! Terrible...Terrible!!!

Glad that I could be of assistance! Which S&W? I'll help you look!

I'm planning on hunting wild hogs during small game season with my 209 X 50 Contender. Deer, hogs, and bear during firearms season with my 5" 629, 6.5" 629, and my 7.5" 657. On my auodad hunt in January, I plan to use my .308 Win XP-100 or my .309 JDJ Contender. I also plan to have the 5" 629 on my hip for Javelina and just in case I can stalk an audoad within revolver range.

Some beautiful shootin' irons posted above - And I have confidence that they'll see some action! I do believe you have it as bad as I do...I'll try to shoot you some action shots of the Smiths in action this weekend. You know, to fan the flames.

Nice pics, KRral. IMO you are a very smart shooter to use the four scope rings. I always believe in "overkill" when it comes to the wonderful world of hunting; especially Handgun Hunting.

Sorry about my intentional semi-pun.

Thanks, Gregg, but I can't take all the credit. I consulted with James when I got my 454 and he suggested the four weigand mag rings; figured it was good advice.

My line up will be the Super Redhawk 44magum with cast performance bullets for the thick woods hunts and the 375 JDJ for the long range areas. I might even take my 45-70 contender out for a walk on occasions. I can't wait to try out them MEPLATS on a deer. I forgot I loaded some 30-30 with the nosler ballistic tips that are so recommended on this site. I guess I need to find a deer for each this year. Next thing to do is sharpen the old skinning knife I guess.

Just purchased a T/C 45-70 SSK but haven't taken it to the range yet--waiting for wrist braces to arrive! Looking forward to testing her out.
