Anyone have experience with these barrels?

I've got one on order now with Bullberry, but may change it to MGM since their turn around time is quicker. Plus they have more options. Bullberry has a floated barrel, and an accuracy gauruntee though. Mine will be for an Encore in 460 Smith and Wesson.

Thought I'd ask if you guys have used either/or.

Thanks

At one time I had a MGM bbl. in 454. Quality was excellent and was very accurate.

I never understood that. What you shoot through it has a lot to do with accuracy, only can do so much with the tube.

For $50 you can upgrade to a Shilen blank with MGM which should put it on par with Bullberry's. I have a 7-30 Waters MGM barrel and cannot complain about the craftsmanship nor the accuracy. BB makes great barrels, but MGM are no slouch.

Yeah I know what ya mean about the accuracy gauruntee. The more I have thought about that, the more it sounds like something to sell someone. I would think any barrel, properly made, should be WELL WITHIN reasonable accuracy.

Of course "reasonable accuracy" would mean different things to different shooters, but to me, if I can shoot MOA with it, I'm freakin EXTATIC!!!

I think if the maker will state an accuracy guarantee and list the make of ammo or load info then it does show that the barrel is capable. The normal way is to include a test target. I would think that if I were making finished barrels, I would want a test fixture to put a few rounds in paper to confirm and include it with barrel for the end user. I bet this would stop many after sales calls about how the barrel is not "accurate".

The nice thing about single shots is that if the barrel is premium for straightness and bore, the crown is cut right and the chamber is true, it's hard to mess up much more.

(that otta get Rod in here ;^) )

I have had 4 MGM and 5 Bullberry barrels. FWIW, If I had to buy another custom barrel it would be from MGM.

Thanks for all the advice. Decided to go with MGM for two reasons. 1.) You guys' recommendation. 2.) Faster turn around.
They told me it should be at my house in four weeks!!!

Now my problem is finding a forend for the 460 full 1" bull barrel! Apparantly they don't make them in synthetic, and ya have to find someone to ream out the normal forend to make it fit the full bull barrels.

Why do I always seem to find the HARD way of doing things???

You might try SSK for the forend.

if you find a suitable forend(with enough meat on the sides), you can wrap some sandpaper around a deep well socket and proceed to open up the barrel channel.

R.T. take a look at tony"s forends and stocks, a 11" job would look real nice.

I think one would want the smallest and lightest forend he could get with the 460, might alleviate the splitting issue.

on my 300 win mag encore handgun, i used a factory composite rifle forend modified with aluminum pillars. it worked well. s4s4u's post may serve as an option on your 460.

Yeah thanks guys. I have looked into tims, and REALLY like that stuff. That's basically what I'm lookin for, but it says he is clear out till after christmas for turnaround! Can't wait that long. Still trying to contact him, but not getting my hopes up.

Going to keep looking at some of the others you guys mentioned and see if I can find them.

Thanks for all the ideas.
