I've just had a gun built for me based on a Ruger Blackhawk action with a shilen barrel. It loves 180gn hard cast lead projies but wont work with 158gn XTPs or Noslers so I've just ordered some 180gn XTPs and if the cylinder will hold the length l'll try some single shot 180gn .35 cal bullets that l have. Anyone tried these out on deer? I want to use them on fallow but I'm worried I might not be able to get the velocity. Most shots will be at about the 100 metre mark. I'm looking at using W296 or some australian made 2205 powders, any other powder suggestions?
I also think 100m is pushing it with the 357. I would recommend tring to cut that in half, but thats just my opinion. I only use my 357s' for plinking or killing rattlers, so the only load I use is 16.7gr h110 with a 158gr d&j cast bullet.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist
i myself only use 158gr jsp bullets and limit myself to 140 yds with the 357 you'll want a through shot to help get more of a blood trail at 110yds i have still gone through both shoulders the drop will be greater with 180's but if the drop is known you should be OK
