I'll stay @ 500 yards! 200 yards is too scary!

That's a BFR 475 with Leupold 2X. The load is LBT 420 grain WFN, 25.3 grains W296, Fed155 primer & Hornady brass.

SC, I agree about the magnification. You know what the crosshair would look like on a target like that at 100 yards...
PS- what about the holdover...

I know rifle shooter that can't do that, and like James said, you did it with a revolver!!

Judging from the picture the scope appears to have target turrets and by this reply I'd venture that he is holding the reticule exactly where he wants to hit

Thanks for all the complements guys! There's no holdover. I use come-ups. If it is zeroed at 100, holdover would be 25". I click it additional 6.25 units on the dial. See the numbers on the turret. Clicks are 1/2 moa on the Leupy, so one dial unit is 2 moa. 6.25 units X 2 moa X 2 = 25 inches holdover/come-ups.

The problem is all week the wind was blowing R-L. An experienced friend of mine told me when he was shooting competition, sometimes when you aimed at a ram, it would hit the other ram. He was shooting a 44 magnum. I don't know if the guys with contenders have that problem with a faster, pointy bullet, because their targets are always 100 yds or less.

Very small amount. A duplex reticle is small. I'm going to try a water bottle with it next time. The problem will be seeing the bottle, maybe not.

Frank, You must have a smaller or custom reticle on your Leupold
2X because I paced off 100 yards and held my 2X Leupold on a similar size target and my duplex reticle covered the target...

very good shooting. I ordered a Stony point target knob for my 2.5 x 8 Leupold. I have not been to the range yet. I sent you a PM. How well does it work? I have a encore 22-250, it is zeroed 1" high at 100 and is dead on at 200yds. I want to see how it will do at longer ranges.

The Stoney Point dial works. Mine pulled the elevation adjuster out the scope because of recoil. You will no problem with it with a 22-250.

I don't know what happen to the PM, but I have my info. Leupold will put a Elv. target knob for $80. I will try the SP for now, I may send to Leupold this winter.

They only do that for 2.5 X 8, not the lower power 2X and 4X. I may look elsewhere for an optic.

Did you hear, the Leupold came apart? I looked at the scope and the elev. turret was gone. There was a big hole on the top. The rest of the scope was fine, just no elevation adjuster. The thing you adjust with a coin was behind me in the dirt.

Is it fixable?

It pulled the threads. Three threads hold the adjuster in the scope body. The tube may need to be replaced also. What's interesting about the failure is the adjuster needs to be tight and bottomed against the ball. If it starts to give way, or lift, pressure against the ball is reduced, resulting is greater elevation. Holding a setting requires it to hold when it's under great tension internally. Then you add recoil. It's those two things, the internal hold plus recoil versus three aluminum threads.
