My FA 83 in .44 Magnum is taking a vacation to Wyoming. It goes for an overall safety and function check. While there it will have an action job. What would you do if you had the opportunity to send one in? I have been thinking of Black Micarta Grips, target crown and grip stud.

Definitely micarta grips and an inverted crown. I haven't been able to bring myself to put sling studs on one yet. A couple have jeweled hammer & trigger.

Maybe if they offer any: some extra front sight blades of various sorts...but those could be ordered any time.

Trigger job is most important, IMHO.

PS: For extreme use (hunting conditions) you do NOT need the trigger over-travel screw stop added. This is more of a target gun option, IMO. Under hunting conditions, it can get jammed with weeds/grass/dirt and cause a problem. I know you did not mention this but I am just giving you a heads up, which you probably do not need.

You could consider the Round Butt option, but there are pros and cons... I liked mine on my .500 WE, but that is just me.

Good Hunting!

Gregg

Any thoughts about the replaceable firing pin? Mine is an older model without it.

Sc1911 - I'd do the action job, replaceable firing pin and if you want the Micarta stocks, swap 'em out. I have the sling studs and target crown on my 7.5" 44, but it was done by the previous owner. Crown is a nice touch, and I'm warming up on the sling studs. For your 6" barreled gun, I'd prefer a holster - but that's just me.

Well, it's on its way there now. Delivery time is late tomorrow afternoon. I went for the action job, black Micarta grips, replaceable firing pin and will speak with John about the crown. If the barrel has to go below 6 inches in any way I don't think I'll do it because some places require at least a 6 inch barrel. I'm gong to pass on the sling stud and use a holster of some type. I thought about the trigger set screw but will pass. It's ok on a target gun but not this. I also asked that they look it over for fit, and function.

I got it!!! The trigger is set a 3 lbs and is so smooth and breaks so clean. The Black Micarta grips look great and are finished to the absolute shape of the grip. It also had the replaceable trigger modification. I'm VERY happy. I still have to get a holster and the one that I like has a six month wait. So I'm gonna work up something for now and order the holster later. Next stop is the range to sight it back in.
