I have one in a T/C Encore 15" and love it. I buy and trade, but this one is an UNTOUCHABLE.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard Rgp332!

I love the 7mm08, it is a great round.

Do you handload?

Howdy Rgp332,

Welcome to Handgun Hunter Magazine "online." You will more than likely get a good number of replies. I can not help as I do not own or work with that caliber.

Again: Howdy!

I ave a 12" and a 15"fluted, and have been hoping to compare them with similar loads over a chrony just to see what is the tradeoff for three inches

Might get flak for this but i would say the most versatile of the 308 based rounds in anything long or short. Hand loading takes it to it full potential. 120 nosler bt's are my favorite.

Thanks for the welcomes !! Yes , I reload. I would be interested in loads you have worked up. I used to have a contender 30-30 14" barrel, wondering how recoil will compare? Looking forward to getting this going!

definately try H4895 with nosler 120gr balistic tips! recoil with 120's is not bad at all.

My 7-08 in the Encore pistol shoots the best with Nosler 140grn Ballistic Tips and 39.5 grn of Varget. It was clocking at 2455 fps and sighted to zero at 200 yds it was only 8" low at 300yd. I have taken two deer, two antelope and a coyote with this load so far.
It kills like a bolt of lightning hit them. I have a Weaver 2.5x8 scope on it. I tried the 120 grn bullets and they shot okay but I couldn't get the small groups I do with the 140grn Ballistic Tips and Sierra Game Kings.

mine shot MUCH better than ok with the 120gr noslers and H4895. shoots like a custom barrel! i did not have to try anything else to find THE load. it pays to experiment if you do not hit on the accuracy load out of the gate for sure. i later began load work with 154gr sst's, but did not get very far. i'll try again sometime when i have time/interest(i have a bunch of 154's). in the mean time the 120gr would do all i ever needed on deer. i usually use the smaller, lighter contender for my hunting anyway. the encore is a must have for a couple of my favorite cartridges though....the 6BR and 7-08. nice to have plenty of backups....lol!
