My Contender has a 14" barrel and a scope. I have been looking at a lot of holsters that will fit that set-up, and none of them look that comfortable to carry into the woods. I have sling swivels on the forend and grip, and was wondering how hard it would be to just carry it that way. I have no experience in the woods with my Contender yet, so please tell me what works bet for you, carrying it with a sling, or what kind of holster works best. Thanks.

I use the Pistol Packaging Bandito Belt rig as well as a sling, but I do not attach the sling to the forend. I attach it to the grip so it carries more naturally and aids in holding steady when adjusted properly.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Dave with Quiethide Holsters makes a great product - not entirely sure that he's currently in operation, but one of the other guys may be able to comment on his product availability.

Uncle Mike's Sidekick works great for all of my scoped T/Cs. Now if your's is scoped like the one pictured above, it won't work.

When hunting/stalking: dirt, mud, rain, snow etc. no worries. Even when crawling. Works better than anything I have tried yet. Not even cactus or buffalo piles affect it.

The upper stud is attached to the grip, just above the sorbathane insert. The scope base is made by Ken Light. http://www.kenlightmfg.com/products.htmlThat is a Bushnell rifle scope on the Waters and the setback of the mount brings it closer to the eye.
Rod, too.

Gregg,
Where can I pick up a rig like that??
Shortgun Many many moons ago I sent a prototype like this to a company that made gun cases and never even heard back from them (and they kept my case.) So you will need to resort to the hand made version. Buy a decent canvas padded case that fits your pistol. Go to the army surplus store and buy some nylon web strap of the same width as the straps on the gun case (or wider - I use 1.25 or 1.50 inch); then determine the length for you and do some sewing with some appropriate heavy duty thread. As for the cartridge loops, I bought a good nylon set and sewed it on too. In addition, I sewed velcro strips on the zippered end which can be used to keep the end closed without having to zip it up. Warning: when pulling the velcro strips apart, it makes quite a noise and it spooked a deer for me one time!

Here is something like Gregg posted in his photo. I stumbled across it in basspro for $35 about a month ago. I attached a strap (not included) to it and can carry it over my left shoulder and behind me keeping both my hands free when walking in the field. I positioned the zippered opening facing upward and as necessary find it quite easy to quietly shift the case forward over my left breast region (yeah, my man boob) thus giving me access my 15" encore. The strap I chose (off another duffle bag I had) can be adjusted to match clothing/weather changes. The zippered compartment is a really nice added feature of this very sturdy product. Here's the direct link. http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-SXB-Pistol-Case/product/10212778/122421 Happy hunting.

don't think I could sew material that heavy any tricks? Tricks? Called hard work. Ever seen a hand-stitched saddle? LOL BTW...I have done my fair share of sewing repair work on saddles as well as other leather hand stitching. But I believe my initial statement was: "...That leather model sure looks good!" Not really stated that I would go out and buy one, but if I did, I would make it work and post it here.

I sling mine with a barrel band about 1 in back from the end of the barrel and the grip screw. I also mounted an Uncle Mikes scope model nylon holster[large size] to the side of my backpack for the hikes in to my stands in the mornings. It frees up your hands, don't have to hold on to the sling, my scoped Super Redhawk and Contenders all fit.
