I got the general setup information from you folks here so I know you've had to deal with it. I'm wondering what you use for a holster. I tried a size 4 Uncle Mike's but it doesn't fit.

I'd like a shoulder holster vs. a chest rig as I'm going to have a slung T/C Encore and binocular harness on already.

As indicated in the subject line, the gun is a Ruger SRH 7.5" in .480. It has a Wiegland rail on it using some Warne 30mm rings to connect to a 30mm UltraDot optic.

Thanks,

Rick

They will make to your gun's dimensions. With the Bandito Belt you can swap holsters out on the same shooulder belt.

Thanks for the suggestion. I see that their sample holster doesn't cover the trigger guard of the SRH they're using as an example. Not good for a double action revolver but I suppose he could make it covered though. I do like that he takes all of the dimensions that one provides to get it right.

I'm sure that they can remedy that for you. I am curious as to why it is of so much concern to you though.

Simply because traveling through the brush either by walking or traveling in the back of a hunting vehicle, I don't want a limb to snag it and cause an inadvertent firing. During the whole time riding in the vehicle on our last RSA trip, we were constantly dodging thorny tree branches so it's not inconceivable that something might snag it. Of course this wouldn't be an issue with an SA revolver like my Super Blackhawk Hunter.

I can understand your concern, but it would take a mighty twig to discharge a SRH in a holster. I'm sure they can add a little leather there tho.

yeah, it's just one of those things I guess. I am more concerned about getting a 2" thorn in my eye than whether the gun was going to get snagged but it doesn't hurt to check. I email the holster maker to find out about it plus ask about his turnaround time.

Thanks again for the lead.

Take a look at the Ringler Custom Leather Wyoming Combo holster.

I have one for my Super Blackhawk Hunter with a Weigand Mount and 30mm Ultradot. It makes carrying that big honkin' gun quite easy. Uber comfortable for wearing all day.

The pictures on the website make the holster look much larger than it actually is. I have had mine for a few years, logged many miles with it and couldn't be happier.

I have to second the Pistol Packaging. They are very easy to work with and flexible. Each holster custom made. Sandy is very knowledgeable and helpful. Plus their stuff is very reasonably priced. If you call them I am sure they will hook you up.

They're certainly who I'm leaning toward that this point in time. I've take some pictures of my SRH all decked out w/ the optic so that I can send them to him with the correct dimensions listed.

Well, I ordered up the Pistol Packing Inc. holster tonight. Looking forward to putting it to its first use 'across the pond'.

Well, after wearing the SRH in the holster for 14 days on the hunt (though never got to use the gun, dang it), one finds a few pro's and con's.

The gun is surprisingly easy to carry on a good belt all day long though two issues arose that needed addressing.

I was surprised to see that the bottom of the holster was open. I assume this was to allow any debris to fall out but it also allowed the muzzle of the gun to stick out even though I provided all of the dimensions when ordering. This was fixed by adding a couple holes and closing it up with a zip-tie.

Second, the location of the hammer strap pulls the gun away from your body rather that toward it. As a result, when the holster leather loosens up from carrying the gun around, it tends to flop around more and more. As an interim mod, I added holes to the body side of the holster and relocated the hammer strap. I will need to take it to a leather shop and get a better, more adjustable strap put in place.
