How do you gents sight in your wheelguns with a scope? I usualy zero at 70 yards with .44s-.45s. With 300gr bullets traveling around 1100fps I am usualy about 3 to 5 low at 100 yards which works fine for most whitetail hunting. Anything closer is usualy only about an inch or two off. Because I live in "open country" and most of my shots will be around 100 yds (or more), I zero @ 100.

I usually start at about 35 yards then move her back to 50yards and then shoot at 100 yards.

Mine are usually sighted in based on caliber, projected use, and optic aboard...

For example...

.357 (2x) - 50 yards
.41 (4x) - 75 yards
.44 (2x) - 50 yards
.44 (2-6) - 100 yards (actually was set at 150 for LR plinking, changing today)
.454 (2.5-8) - 100 yards
.500WE (red dot) - 50 yards

With revolvers with optics I usually zero @ 100, which puts the midrange trajectory at around 3" above line of sight and 3" below @ 125.

I should have asked about the X-factor as well. I can tell that everyones situations are different. Most of my whitetail pistol kill are 100 yards or less. I do hunt some open ground with handguns but that is left up to the encore. reflex264

Same here. I like to be pretty much on at 75 yards.

Scoped, 100 yards for me then I record actual dope for 25, 50, 75, 125. I do this for 45-70 and 45 bisley hunter. Red dot sights I use 75, then record the dope for other ranges out to 100.

I zero at 100 yards.

I normally zero my .44 at 100 yards and call it good.
This gives me a point blank range of about 120 yards.

+2.2" @ 60 yards
-2.6" @ 120 yards

0-120, hold dead on and squeeeeeeeze.

For target shooting I tend adjust my sights based on the range I am shooting, but for hunting, +/- 2.5" is more than accurate enough for whitetails or hogs.

I sight my big bores with red dots in at 50 to 45yds and my scoped flatter shooting guns like my 454, 460, and 500s&w at 100yds the 460 was actually sighted in at 150. My scoped 475 is sighted at 75yds. Irons I normally sight around 35 since I don't like to shoot past 50 with those as my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I am trying to figure a happy medium for sighting in my smith 460 mag with a 4x leupold.... I read a 200 yard zero puts you in a kill zone out to 250 with a center hold but the data I am looking at doesn't show that??? with the 200 gr hornady ammo..... Any help from you 460 mag shooters on this subject would greatly be appreciated....

My 480 and my 44"s are sighted in 2" high at 50 yards, My X frame is set dead on at 100 yards.

Just as a thought, I used to shoot an XVR and I put the 2.5-8 Leupold on it and it used all of it. I know they are spendy scopes but the 460 is one revolver that can really benefit from the high power. I was shooting MOA consistently with some groups under MOA off sandbags to 150 yds using 260gr Partitions loaded to 2100fps. That gun and load would have taken anything in North America including the grizz and everthing but the toughest of African critters.

Were these were handloads, I figured first batch of factory will give me my brass lol and then I would play around with different loads as I do handload some of my more $$$ ammo, the straight 4 power was given to me so I figured I'd use it lol lol I wanted that 2-8 but didn't have the loot right now .....

yep they were handloads out of the hodgdon manual, they were max with H110. Nosler is still running limited production on the Partitions which are a definite top line bullet but the swift a frame is another good one. I also like the XTP Mags but they are in 240 and 300gr and I never tried them in the 460. I know the VXIII is spendy but watch for them on our classifieds, ebay, amazon etc and when you get a chance grab one. I have started using the Elite 3200 2-6 which is considerably less than the Leupold and is my second favorite variable handgun scope. I just wish it also went to 8x.

My scoped SRH is sighted dead on at 100 yards.

I as well zero at 80 yrds with 45 colt blackhawk 7,5 inch,300 grain xtp's, i have a tiny maybe 1 inch holdover at 120 then ,i wont take most times over 100 yrds with my 45colt.

I find with a 44mag velocity is a real range extender....shoot the 240gr to 1500+fps and you will easily be able to zero a scoped revolver to 150yards. This will carry you all the way to 200yard+ with just a little holdover. You can shoot dead on to 175 and never go above or below 5" from line of sight.

With some testing and range practice, with the duplex reticle scope, you can utilize the heavy cross hair point as a perfect referance point.

When you raise to the 300gr and have to slow it down, it will really cost you on the downrange side of the ballistic arch.

I prefer to stay within 3" personally. We have smaller critters here.
