Last week, I had the good fortune to catch up with fellow forum member Darrell H in NW Georgia and sling a little lead at the range in anticipation of our respective upcoming deer seasons. One of my goals was to dial in my 7.5" M83 FA in 44 Mag, as I had dialed it up last year while shooting longer ranges with the revolver. After shooting the FA 22, being rattled with the Casull's, and tagging steel with the hyper-accurate 686, I "tightened up" to see if I could manage a good group to quit on with the 44. Hornady factory 240 gr XTP's - Bushnell Elite 2x6. Benched at 100 yards, 4 shots...1.67". First two shots in the orange, next 2 piled in touching one another at 2:00. Scary thing is, this gun can shoot better. I think "we're" ready! As usual, Darrell brought an arsenal - a little light on wheelguns this time, his XP's made a statement, vaporizing tiny pieces of clay targets on the back berm. Darrell, the Apache 308 needs blood!

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Dur, that FA's 44 is not shoot'n to your expectations...I know you won't stand for anything over MOA. You should just sell it to me; I'm content with 1.5 MOA...
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

FANTASTIC! I have been shooting my 44 at 100 yards lately but the groups are quite a bit larger.

Good shooting! My scoped Super Redhawk loves the 240gr XTP's too!! My orange circle is 3" in diameter.

Hell yes... good shooting fellas. I love this time of year as we all begin to get excited for our hunting seasons!

Thanks guys! I can't wait...as usual, the great dilemma is which one gets to the field first (and second, and so on). I think I'll probably put it to a Forum vote, or draw out of hat...

You do realize that your results will be null and void if you were using magnum primers.....

Certainly - it would have been a one-hole group without them. Gotta leave a couple things to chance

While the FA 44 mag shooting was impressive, I was more impressed by SCH connecting on 4 out of 5 shots on small pieces of clay pigeon at 125 yards with his iron-sighted 7.5" FA 454!
