Earlier this week I filled my first tag of '12. I was using my 260 Striker on this hunt

Congrats Wyote!

On the board for 2012 - what bullet do you use out of the .260? Please give us some details on the hunt (it'll be a little bit before I can sling anything but arrows)

Good show! What was the distance?

Rod, too.

Pretty simple hunt.........We had to shoot with in a half mile of irrigated land. So that pretty well meant hay fields.

About shooting time I pulled into a hay field and there was a herd in front the stack yard. I was getting my gear out of the truck and the antelope took off for the end of the field. I snuck over to the fence, got prone and shot the doe. I left my range finder at the house, the shot was farther than I thought. which resulted in low hit and a follow up

Congrats on the first of the year! Was the horned doe by-chance or did you know it was horned?

Man, I didn't know you could hunt those in August! What's it like for non-residents?

Is the Antelope buck season open in Aug as well? I see a hunt before my wife starts teaching at school next year.

SBhunter all hunt dates for R and NR are the same. This was a doe/fawn hunt but there is an area down on So Pass (area 107) that is a buck antelope hunt that opens Aug 20th. This hunt is for muzzleloader/handgun only.

KRal, I was just looking for a good doe (preferably dry) when I picked this one out of the group. I did see she had horns but I didn't necessarily pick her for that reason.

Congratulations Wyote! I agree, can we have some details on the shot distance, reaction, ammo used etc.?

Rob, Mr. wyote was referring to his first of 2012; not first of twelve. The most antelope you can legaly kill in Wyoming to my knowledge was back in the 90's when you could kill a buck and five does if you bought the tags. One year, two of my antelope hunters teamed up and did just that. IE: each hunter killed a buck 'lope and five does; twelve total between them. That stands as a record for the Handgun Hunters International Antelope Hunt, and likely will not be broken.

Some areas are good for 2 bucks. The most doe tags you can get are 4, 2 having to be obtained during the initial draw.
