A buddy and I are wanting to go hog hunting this winter. Anyone here have any suggestions on where to go or outfitters/guides? Not afraid to pay for the experience but I would like to have a good time.

We go to Wilderness Lodge in TN. Where in TN are you located? Been there several times and always have a great time. Had some real excitement there once with a Charter Target Bulldog and the hog from torment. Nice accomadations especialy in the log or cedar lodge. Processer on site as well. Here is a link to the story from the bad hog. reflex264

Had some friend's go down to Southern Sportsman lodge in Alabama
and 4 out of 5 took home hogs. They all saw hogs but one guy couldn't get an opportunity to shoot.

If your just north of Memphis you would have about a 5 hour drive. Easy enough though. Get on 40 and stay till you get to the Monterey exit then about 14 miles.

The first year I took Matt he didn't get one but he was being careful and wouldn't take a iffy shot. An experienced handgunner should have a 95% probability of bringing home bacon. They let you hunt on your own and have plenty of land. Once you have a hog down they go back in the mountains on 4 wheelers or a gator and get it. reflex264

Are the hogs wild or tame there? The only reason I ask is because I have never hunted inside a fence like that.

They release hogs there on a regular basis. While there are russians on the place, many are ferrals that are trapped in OK and checked for disease then released. While you might run up on some that are tame most of the time when they see you they are immediately headed the other way in a hury. Unless you intentionaly walk all the way to a fence you hardly ever see a fence. I carried my gps last time we went and we walked 11.5 miles the first day. It relly is a hunt and if you didn't know there was a fence you would never know the difference.

It isn't the cheapest hunt but it is a very good hunt. The best time to go for me is the end of March or first of April. Less hunters there and nice weather. One requirement is you must like walking up and down hills. Last trip both of us killed hogs on the side of a mountain that even goats use safety lines on. On a scale of 1-10 I give the place a 8. The reason I don't give it a 10 is there are several places that you can kill more hogs for the same money. reflex264

If you don't mind hunting behind a fence, I suggest hunting at Razorback Ridge in Georgia. They are a great group of guys who cater to the disabled and to kids. They will hunt anyway you want to hunt. The first time we went, we spot and stalked for my husband's hog and then that afternoon we turned out a dog for mine. We have also stand hunted.

This is a Russian I took, in Vermont's Green Mountains, in 2008 with my S&W 629-4 Mountain Gun.
