Several guys at our range speak highly of these scopes, especially on Encores and Contenders. I'm curious if anyone here has opinions.

i have one on my ruger MK3 hunter 22lr auto. the thing i like about it on it(other than it's smaller price tag in comparison), is the thin type reticle for accurate rimfire shooting. kinnda like aim small, miss small, ya know....lol. not sure how they would hold up long term on heavier recoil guns. for that i kinnda bit the bullet and use burris, which i like extremely well.

I have four of them. They are mounted on a .22 Ruger Mk-I, T/C 7-30, Ruger BH .44 and a S&W M29 .44. I like them and they work well. I have a 2.5-7X Simmons Gold Medal waiting to be mounted on something. I have run 500 rounds through the .44s this summer and they are doing well and have not lost zero.

Had one on my encore muzzle loader. Came apart after one deer season, the gutts came apart inside. Oh, by the way their warranty stinks, but you get what you pay for I guess....

I've had two on my Ruger SHR 454 casull and both came apart after about eight rounds. Simmons replaced the one and repaired the other. When the repaired one came back it had a notation at the bottom of "discontinued item". I would go with a different brand.

I read that they would hold up to the recoil of a 44 mag.

I'm going to try one on my 7-30 Waters Contender. I'll report back as to how it does.

I had one on my Encore 20X50 ML Pistol for a lot of years; it is now on a .243; it's doing fine.

Many years ago JD Jones recommended them; if my memory serves correctly. Now he recommends Leupold; more or less. Don't know if the older ones were tougher or not.

I run them on several, including a 12" .45-70. I've not had any problems so far with any of them. I also use Bushnell and Leupolds, too.

it was the simmons GOLD MEDAL that carried the reputation. i'm sure the pro hunter models are not up to holding that rep.

I just put one on my Contender in 30 TCU and I am quite impressed with it..the clarity and eye relief are nice. I understand the 30 TCU doesnt kick much ...but it was a nice cheap scope. Hopefully it will hold up. Robbie

I had one on my 460 xvr. It lasted 2 seasons before the guts came apart. Was perfect until it failed. Simmons warranty was honored and because Simmons and Bushnell are sister companies they allowed me to upgrade to a bushnell elite for $100 or so. I did have to keep up with them to get the switch done. In the warranty submission I inclosed instructions from the lady I talked to in warranty about the switch and upgrade. I called when I thought they should have received it and they were about to mail out a replacement Simmons. Somehow the upgrade idea got lost in the woods. Really like the Elite.

I have a 4x32. It started out as a scout scope on an SKS and after about 1K rounds, I switched it to a .22LR barrel for my G2 pistol. I have had no issues and I like it much better in its intended role as handgun scope vs scout scope.
