Can you use a bullet puller on a straight-walled cartridge with a crimp?

the hammer style works on them. then take out your decapping pin and size then flare them again

thanks tyler,
I was thinking maybe it wouldn't work because of the crimp, but that makes sense

I made a kinetic (hammer style) puller to pull some 480 Ruger ammo that came with a gun. It worked well, but it took some good whacking to get them.

Rod, too.

I have broke three kinetic style bullet pullers. I just recently learned that if you use them on an old wood log or stump, they will last longer. Using them on concrete is a great idea, but it is also harder on your equipment IMHO...

I've used a collet style for 44s and it worked fine.

after using the collet style model in my press I would never go back to the kinetic ones (having broken several of them...) I also never liked the idea of subjecting a live round to the shock of the kinetic puller, not to mention the powder going everywhere. Use the collets-no mess, and bullets typically only have faint marks from being pulled.

Ive used hornays puller for rifle rounds but never straight wall ones. On some of my bottleneck rounds i use vld's that sit deep in the case with not much of the bearing surface exposed. The collet needs to be adjusted just right to grab and even then dont always grab. Thats with no crimp. Ill get the collets for mine and try them.

I have one of the hammer type kinetic ones. It takes some doing but even heavily crimped rounds come loose.

I had to pull 50 .480R rounds that the previous owner of my gun sent me (I don't trust anybody else's reloads). By about the 10th one I had it down and could get the bullet about 95% out with 3 good solid whacks. One small tap after that freed up the bullet and kept the powder from spraying everywhere.
