On my S&W 500, I used a swivel stud from a S/S double shotgun. It has help up so far! It gets two holes tapped and goes on the underlug, and the Hogue grip screw was replaced with a stud screw. I post the pics a while ago. Do a seach for 'My Babies' and the pics will come up. You may be able to do the same with a SBH. Gerry.

For the front stud, you can use a barrel band type that is commonly used on lever action rifles. The rear presents a bit more of a challenge. Since the Ruger Grip screw enters from the side of the gun, that is not an option. You could drill and tap a hole to accomodate a machince threaded stud in the bottom of the grip frame. You would have to be careful with the placement of the stud to make sure it doesn't interfere with your hold.

mstake, I have a Magnaport stalker the has sling swivel studs on it. The front on is drilled an tapped into the barrel and the rear is as Stush says on the bottom of the grip frame. It's a very nice set up that is very functional. The only downside may be the ability to change grips but other than that I see no problems. I think Reeder also do this to some of his custom guns. Just some ideas.

mstake,
I tried the barrel band on my S&W Model 57 and Ruger SBH. Both slide towards the cylinder under heavy recoil. I ended up removing the latch from one end of the sling and making a slip knot for the front of the barrel. On the grip I use Hogue grips and replaced the normal screw with a shortened sling stud. I also had to replace the nut in the grip mount. I used it last season and love it. When I get to my stand I unclip the rear and loosen the front and the sling is off.

Rick,

If you dust the inside of the barrel band with a little rosin before installing it, it generally wont slip under recoil.

Contact cement made for leather on the barrel and barrel band base works real well for me. No slipping on numerous T/C barrels and one SBHH for years now.
