As I posted recently, our annual handgun group hunted the Y O Ranch this past weekend. I was fortunate to find a decent spotted fallow late in the afternoon on the first day. Pictures are posted on the bragging board if you care to see him. I used my FA single shot in 338 Federal. He was not too much over 100 yds. One shot -- entered the middle of the right shoulder & exited behind the off shoulder. I used Federal factory ammo -- 210 Nosler partitions. He walked about 15 yds, turned in a circle & fell.

Fantastic!
How did the group do all total? What types of guns and calibers were used?

SChunter,
We had a very small group this year. However, in addition to the hunters, we had 7 nonhunters. Thus, it was a good weekend for the ranch in spite of the number of hunters being down from the usual 12-15.
Tommy -- Red Sheep wiith 35 Rem contender Jay -- 1 Sika Buck - 30-30 AI Jay -- 2 Sika does - 7-08 BLackie -- nuttin -- Let Kris kill his. Shot his 338 Fed FA at the long range --- 265-550 yds. More fun than shooting the deer. Steve -- Sika buck & sika doe -- 7-30 Waters Jim -- Sika doe - 7-30 Waters Jim -- Sika buck -- 44 mag Ruger BH Kris -- Sika Buck & 2 does - FA 44 Mag Kris -- Sika Buck -- FA 454 Me -- Fallow with 338 Fed FA
I had the 500 WE with me, but only shot it on the range. Blackie and Jerry (his son) were throwing baseball sized rocks out about 40-50 yds & shooting them (on the ground of course) offhand with the 500 WE. Then they would shoot the biggest piece that was left. Many of you may be able to do that, but I cannot. That was the first time that Blackie had ever shot that caliber. He concluded that it was a "nice mild little caliber." However, he is much like Whitworth. He sees no reason not to load the case full & the bigger the case, the better he likes it. LOL

Excellent Fallow buck, WT! Do you have room for him on your wall?
Or is he too big?

Gregg,
I took down the spot that I had next to the fireplace & replaced him with the white one that I got last year. I have some months to decide where to put this one.
Thanks to all for your comments.
