I stumbled across an article that stated shooting double action was more accurate than shooting single action. The reason was the trigger pull is steady. The single action can cause you to jerk the trigger. Any of you had experience with this. I do not see it applying to hunting since deer normally do not stand still as the paper. What you think?

I've yet to find that 2 pound DA trigger so I have to call BS on that one.

Bad form is bad form, whether SA or DA. How do they measure accuracy, 5 on a paper plate @ 7 yards in 3 seconds? I have a few DA revolvers and shoot much more accurately with them SA.

my duty firearm for years was a s&w m65, and did a lot of shooting with it over the years we had it. im not going to be on imposable shots any time soon but i could hit what i pointed it at. still, for the most accurate shots (ihmsa/hunting) sa is the way to go. in short B.S.

Before we assume anything lets find out if he meant fireing a "DA" revolver using the "trigger cocking" feature using the long heavy DA pull or if he means "thumb cocking" the gun and firing it single action with most DA revolvers "fine" action with a shorter lighter hammer fall as opposed to SA that has a longer heavier hammer fall. ETC...........

The article I read did not say shooting double action as single action. I'm going to range today and try it. Gives me reason to burn some powder. I don't usually need much encouragement to go shoot anyway. Lol

I could seem some merit to it but only under specific conditons.
You would need an ultra smooth semi light DA pull to even start. If the pull is gritty, inconsistent or heavy you don't have a prayer.

I think there are way too many variables to make an assertion like that. It all depends on the revolver and the jerk on the trigger.

I am with whit- what shooter and what gun? Personally I shoot my super blackhawk hunter a heck of a lot better than my sp101.

There's plenty of folks out there that will shoot double action just as good as those that shoot single action only - but to say double action is more accurate is a stretch at best. I'd say some can shoot as accurate but not more accurate, as when you square off to prove a point, you're usually pretty confident in your ability to back up the statement.

I've got an ole Smith - model 25-2, that was converted to 45 Colt by Bowen which also has the narrowed hammer and trigger and that puppy is smooth. I can keep 5 rounds within 1 to 3 inches at 25 yards offhand in either single or double action mode. I just need to concentrate a little more double action. I shoot faster with greater accuracy in single action, cocking with the off-hand thumb but that’s because that’s been my method of choice over the past 50 years.

There's a lot of shooters out there that can do some amazing shooting with their firearm of choice - as once many years ago 3 ole timers with smokepoles challenged 3 of us with our full blown hunter benchrest rigs (6X scope) to a shoot off using their rabbit targets at 100 yards with the loser buying the beers. They requested we give them a point to start since they were iron sighted and shooting I think 69 caliber or some such cannon number. Yup, we gave them a point and we lost 300 - 30X to 301-28X not sure on their x-count but it was a couple under perfect. I'll never trust another smokepole and those boys could drink a lot of beer too.
