I friend of mine has a 500SW. It is the from the custom shop, long barrel with rail made into the barrel. He tried a Tasco scope, it lasted 5 rounds. I told him a Leupold, Bushnell, or T/C should work, also a Ultra Dot. What do you use?

good suggestions! In my opinion putting a Tasco or one of the other cheapy brands on a performance Center gun is like putting wal-mart no-name brand tires on your Ferrarri!
The brands you named are good along with Burris. I like a brand with a "lifetime" or "Forever" warranty, that way if anything happens to it, they will fix it no questions asked.
I always like to see the Made in the USA stamp on it too

I've always been a leupold fan. That's all I will use anymore. I have the 460 in an encore platform now, and the leupold is the only scope I will use. I tried some different scopes and red dots on my first 460 revolver, and none of them made it through a box of shells.
For me, it is leupold or nothing.

Depending on the distances he intends to shoot I might lean toward the UltraDot. I have been replacing scopes with dots on all but the long range stuff as they are quicker to target and better in low light. I also like the absence of eye relief and parallax.
For a scope, if he has the coin Leupy would be the way to go, with the Bushy Elites and Burris close seconds.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

If he get a Leupold, tell him to make sure the reticle is level before he buys. Mine's off and from searching around it seems to be fairly common. Still a fine scope though!

That's odd Wizzard. Never heard of one doing that. Not that I have owned a ton of them, but the ones I have had are always spot on and tough as nails. I'd like to see what it is you are talking about. Sounds goofy for sure!

Ultra dot or a Leupold, anything else won't survive long.

Raptor, not much to tell really. With everything level, the verticle reticle is rotated slightly to the left. I did some searching to find out if this was something I needed to be concerned about and Leupold came up alot considering I kept the search vague and didn't mention what kind of scope I have. Now, I am still a Leupold fan and would still buy their products. Also I think this happens with other scopes, but Leupold's are in the price range where most people feel this shouldn't happen. I agree!

Yeah no kidding!!! For that price range, it should be bullet proof. That is why I have gone strictly to Leupold-- it usually IS bullet proof! I've never had an issue with them, but this is certainly something for me to watch for with future purchases.

I like the Ultradot, one of the main reasons is I can keep both eyes open when shooting at my game,it helps me concentrate more on my shot -john

I keep both eyes open using my VXIII. Are you supposed to use a scope with one eye closed???

My exact sentiments.

the ultrdot wouldn't work for raptor, he's wanting to use the 200+ yd potential of the 460.
I've also had a Leupold with a slightly turned crosshair but I've also had a couple I thought were turned but found when I would close my eye and look back through it, it looked straight, weird I know. I have never had a problem with the dozen or so VXIII's I've owned, it seems like the problem is primarily found in the old M8 and FXII.
