This is one advertisement I had to share with you guys. In case you can`t read the words: "The Savage Automatic- It`s small, light, unobtrusive. You don`t notice it in the pocket or on the belt. But when the diamond-back rattler buzzes or the copper-head squirms- when there`s a bear in the trap or a bob-cat in the tree- when the rare chance of human violence threatens in the wilderness- or when the stinging wind on the north shore of Superior brings the BLOOD-CHILLING YELL OF THE MAN-HUNTING wolf pack nearer and nearer- the little Savage proves the closest, truesty friend".
Fellows, I`ll be honest....this stuff gets my blood moving and I want to go hunting tommorrow morning. That part about the Lake Superior wolves is excellent. You must understand that this was published in a magazine one year after World War 1.....

For that price I'll buy a couple :-)

The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

Guess I gotta get me one! what a great ad, thanks James for sharing it. Those old ads were so evocative.

These old ads are stark reminders of how the personal defense paradigm has changed. Most folks today would never – under any reasonable circumstance - consider themselves very well armed with a .32/.380 pistol …. in the outdoors, or anywhere else.

It is very interesting how advertising has changed so much. That add has long narratives that tell a detailed story and now it is all about short punch lines.

Now days most of the "rare chances of human violence" happen in the urban wilderness lol.

That is a neat add

Nice ad. Wish gun companies would return to this type of ad?

Another cool advertisement! Without TV as the main vehicle for advertising and sales, the descriptions were vivid...

Hey James - Let's get us a pair of those .32 ACP's for when we have "bears in the traps", or encounter a "pack of manhunting wolves". Sounds like just the thing!

I was in Upstate New York for two years in the late 70's early 80's. Our landlady knew I liked guns, so she brought down a box from the attic and showed me her late husbands Savage in .380. She wanted to "Gift" it to me, but I made out a bill of sale and gave her $1 for it, so I could ship it back home to Utah. Still have it today, and it is a hoot to shoot. Now shooting a cottonmouth on the trail with it at more than a foot, may be stretching the truth a bit!

That's a neat, old add, James.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

James you come up with the coolest stuff!

You've inspired me to keep a lookout for old handgun articles (and ads). I'll give you inspirational credit for anything I find worthy of posting.

THANKS!

Jeff
