What are the pro's and con's of a WFN and a LFN cast bullet? The WFN seems to have a wider meplat. Or, maybe The LFN is there for heavier bullets. I don't know and would like to hear from some of you guys. Whit, I hope you chime in.

A LFN will put a little more weight forward and thus give you a little more case capacity, but I don't know if it is any beter or worse than the WFN bullet.

WFN has a larger meplat(causing a little more tissue damage) but at greater distances the LFN gets the accuracy nod. Good WFNs are usually accurate to well past hunting ranges so the larger meplat is the reason most prefer them. From my experiences WFNs like the higher velocities and the LFNs work across the board. I don't know that the tissue damage between the two would be extremely noticeable. Get some of both and give them a try. I have guns who prefer one over the other.

I would consider myself an anti-WFN...I hate em!!! I don't believe for one second that they kill any better.

I suppose if I lived in the dense eastern woodlands I may not mind them...but out west they are totally useless!

I see no good reason to limit my guns range. I have shot my LFN's over 1000yards and they shoot like a Sharps rifle. The WFN is totally unpredictable past 150 yards.

They just will not shoot through my FA83 475L...Because they are full caliber so far ahead of the crimp, half of the ones that I have tried wouldn't even chamber in my FA unless I sized them down too small, (this causes them to lead my barrel).

I know that 150yrds is past handgun range...But just like Elmer Keith and his 600 yard deer kill, you (I) may have the opportunity to take down a wounded animal at loong range...with the LFN it is totally possible..with the WFN, it is a JOKE. If it is wounded and you can see it...you probly ought to be shooting, NO matter how far it is.

Plus it is SUPER FUN to launch big heavies WAAAAAY out there. You would be surprised how well they will shoot once you get your hold dialed in.

Mister, why do you carry a 45? "Because Sam Colt don't make a 46."

I hear ya, but for me, handgun hunting means getting as close as possible before launching lead. WFNs fly just fine out to the ranges I use them, and they do leave a BIG wound channel. JMHO. That said, accuracy is most important. If you can't hit it, you can't hurt it.

I'm not a big cast bullet guy but I do load for them for everything from the 357 to the 500 Linebaugh and 500 S&W in Handguns and for my 45-70 Marlin 1895 Limited. I prefer and shoot the WFN in all these calibers and have had no more problems with accuracy than with the LFN. The main thing to remember with cast is they can be more sensitive to throat size and at least for me it's taken more load development to get them to shoot as well as my jacketed with the one exception being my 45-70. I also loaded for a BFR in 45-70 with the CP 440gr which they no longer make and it would shoot about 3" at 100yds with a red dot and 1.5-2" with a 2x Leupold and I ran the bullet at 1650 out of a 7.5" barrel. My rifle shoots similiar groups with a peep sight with an Oregon Trail Trueshot at 2000fps. By the way neither gun is (was in the case of the BFR) fun to shoot with those loads but they are absolute hammer capable of taking anything on the planet living or extinct!
