I like to ask any of you. For some feed back on running some 300 gr. speer JFN. through My new model blackhawk 45LC 5-1/2 barrel the fps is around 1325 My question is will the frame hold up to that kind of punishment? Im planning on doing some hog hunting with these loads.

do you have any signs of excessive pressure ie; stuck cases deformed primers. The frame should handle it with ease but the cylinder may be another matter, I'm running 300gr xtp at 1450 but I'm concerned about my cylinder and am thinking about going to a 5 shot cylinder.

you would probably be ok but you might want to check with your gunsmith or if you don't have one theres a couple on this sight and I would personally recommend stush at debicks, because I have dealt with him but I'm sure any competent gunsmith can help you, I know we are both exceding saami pressures but my gun seems to take it just fine.

Hey fellas...I've been playing with some heavy .45 Colt loads. Now that I have two .45 Colt to playwith I can finish testing. I'm working up loads with a 405gr Bear Tooth and H110. I can tell you that in the 5.5" RBH it is a handfull!!

i read somewhere that "the shooter will give up before a ruger will" ,my 45 lc is the 4 5/8"bh.we have ran some stiff loads through it(two shots and the base pin would be over half way out! )put a base mountain in her and she is fine now.the heaviest load we shot was a 340 gr. cast bullet and that mother was wicked!(im kinda hooked on the 250 and 300 gr. xtp's at the moment)jim257

I have a standard issue Ruger Blackhawk with 5.5" barrel and iron sights. The only custom work I have was done by Debick Gunsmithing (they are a sponsor on the board but I had this work done with them before them began advertising here). Stan recut the cylinder throats and did a most excellent action job. Then I installed a Belt Mountain base pin. Other than that it is all factory.

I'm nor running them at a max load. I have not even had the chance to chrony the loads. I just got a Super Blackhawk Hunter model .45 Colt so I'll have two to test loads in now.

Thank you all for your reply, I think what I'm going to do is keep my loads under 260 Grains in my 45 LC, and run the heavy stuff
thrugh my 44 mag.
