It has been a long time since I killed a hog. 1 1/2 years to be exact and it hasn't been for lack of effort. During the past year and a half I have been hog hunting countless times and logged many miles but I just couldn't seem to make it happen. That's the way it goes hunting hogs on public land I guess. My luck finally changed yesterday when I connected on this sow with my 629 Classic shooting a 240 grain Remington JSP/W296 handload:

I hit the hog behind the right shoulder and the bullet exited in the center of its left shoulder. It ran about 50 yards and piled up.

I went to another area this morning and connected on another sow with my 209 X 50 Contender. I was using the same 240 grain Remington JSP atop 70 grains of Blackhorn 209. This load replicates the velocity that I am getting out of my 6.5" revolver. I hit the hog in the center of its left shoulder and the bullet exited behind its right shoulder. It also ran about 50 yards.

Its feast or famine with hogs for me I guess. I have to admit liking "feast" better

That is good news. I see you have some kind of red dot sight on the TC Contender. What brand are you using?

Way to go Darrel! Fire up that smoker.

Very nice! I've got to work up some loads for my new 209x50 contender. Looks like when you make up for lost time; you really make up!

Way to go Darrel. Those mountain pigs can definetly be tough to locate. Boars make nice trophys but I'll take a sow over a boar any day.

Excellent, it's always nice when you get the skunk off the guns!

Glad your "dry spell" is over, Darrell. I'm in a dry spell myself, but maybe I can fix that soon.

Nice work, Darrell! I am pleased to hear (and see!) that your dry spell has come to a resounding and grinding halt! Congratulations!

It's amazing how difficult hogs can be sometimes. There are a couple of big ones around there that I've been chasing for a couple years and just can't seem to make it happen either.
