I had waited months for October 11th the day we fly to Wyoming to get here. It finally arrived!!!! We arrived in Denver, Colorado on Thursday morning and rented a truck. We decided to take our 3 year old son to Estes Park to find some elk. WOW!!!! We saw alot of elk. I have to say that I have never had an interest in hunting them until now. Now they are on my list to shoot. We left Estes Park on Friday and headed toward Wright, Wyoming. After about 5 hours of driving we reached our destination. We had dinner with some great friends and also my fellow hunting partner on this Little Gun Invitational Hunt. Saturday morning we woke up and took Camden (our son) to the playground to run off some of the energy he had saved up on the ride out. At lunch time we went to the office at the Durham Ranch for our meeting so we could start our hunt. After getting signed in and going over things it was time to begin. I have to say I was really nervous. Gregg had spotted a nice buck that morning and asked who was going to be up first to shoot, so I decided to let Carol go first.
Matthew, Camden, and I got in the truck and followed Gregg and Mike and Carol. We were going to glass from a distance. As soon as we got to the field where the buck was spotted, the group of antelope were bedded down waiting on us. Gregg, Mike and Carol drove to the antelope while we stayed back to watch through the spotting scope and binoculars. Carol shoots her antelope and sends the group my way. Gregg comes back for his truck and asks if we can see the group from where we are standing. We were standing behind a snow fence and could see the group through the fence. Gregg and I decide to go after this group. We get out stuff and crawl through a barb wire fence and did a small stalk till we got near the fence. Then we get down and crawl till we get up the fence. Gregg gets his camera ready while I lay down and get everything ready to shoot. There is a really nice buck standing 203 yards in front of us. After taking a few breaths to calm my nerves, I pull the trigger. I made a good solid shot but he decided he wasn't going to go down. He was still standing so I took another shot to put him down. This one did it. He ran about 10 yards and was down for good. The greatest feeling ever!!!!! I couldn't wait to go lay hands on him. We were in the truck going to try to get close to him without doing to much damage to the land but I couldn't wait. I had to get out of the truck and run to him. He field scored at 80 6/8. I plan on putting him in the SCI Record Book. It was a great hunt!! After the hunt we celebrated at the Open Range Steakhouse with Gregg. Thanks Gregg for allowing me the chance to take this awesome buck!! This is a hunt I will never forget and I got to have my husband and son with me when I did it.
On this trip I also got to shoot long range with Ernie. That was so my fun!! I have been wanting to do that for a while and finally got to do it. I had a blast!! I did really good considering it was so windy. Thanks Ernie for letting me shoot yours guns and for the helpful information.
We went to Devil's Tower and Camden got to see real life prairie dogs. I would say this was the best vacation ever!!

PinkTC is my wife and I traveled with her and our son to Wyoming to hunt antelope. Only she had a buck tag but doe tags are available over the counter. Getting her buck was the first priority, after that I would shoot prairie dogs and hopefully find a landowner that would allow me to doe hunt. We shot all summer with my goal being to shoot my doe with an iron sight sixgun. I got the landowner list from the local chamber of commerce, made a whole lot of phone calls, but never got a yes from anyone. I carried my guns and hoped a couple of "maybes" would pan out. Heather shot her buck on Saturday. Sunday afternoon was my first chance to shoot prairie dogs. The wind was blowing and the dogs were spooky. The nearest shot was 161 yards and I connected on several out to 306 yards with a .223 Contender. Beyond 300 I brought out my xp-100, and despite the wind I made my longest kill on a prairie dog at 401 yards. Truthfully it was the 13th shot at that distance and the 4th at that dog, but what a proud moment. Monday morning I joined Gregg at the same dog town. The wind was terrible! So bad in fact it shook the truck as we rested on the hood. I still managed a few kills out to 277 yards with the .223. That afternoon we joined Ernie ,shot steel ,and talked toys. I stretched my XP out to 600 yards, and even took the 30-30 Contender with factory ammo out to 400 yards. A last minute opportunity to hunt a doe came up for Tuesday morning. I intended to donate the doe to Ken Taylor who collects the meat for veterans. He was leaving that morning ,so I told I would call with results by 10 AM. The landowner asked me to only shoot an old doe, and I needed to get it done in about three hours so the pressure was on. I started at daylight and man what a hunt I had. There are plenty of antelope in Wyoming to chase and I got to glass, walk, crawl, and even run in the course of one morning. The hunt ended in a 5 or 600 yard stalk, the last of which was on my belly, to put in position to glass a group of 15 antelope. I selected the doe I believed to be most mature and placed my shot at 233 yards with the 30-30 Contender. She stumbled over the hill, but went down shortly. She needed a finisher when I got there. She was 6 plus years old and the perfect doe to take out of the herd.

What a couple of EXCEPTIONAL antelope hunts!
