Went out shooting last weekend to get some more practice in before deer season, and bought some Fusion 140grn 7mm 08 ammo because I got a case stuck in my sizing die, and wanted a bunch of ammo to shoot. Started with my reloads, and everything was going great. Getting honest moa groups with my reloads at 100 yrds.

Switched to the factory stuff, and the groups opened up to 4-5 inches!! With my reloads, I feel confident out to 300yrds, but with this factory ammo I wouldn't even shoot out to 200.

I would not have believed there could be so large a difference in group sizes if I hadn't experienced it for myself. Is it possible my gun dislikes the factory stuff that much?? What a waste of money.

Any advice on getting a stuck case out?? I have mangled it pretty badly already.

Thanks
MN

I know certain guns have personalities and like certain factory ammo better than another... yours obviously did not like that fusion

Do you have a tap and die set? If you drill a 7/32" hole through the primer pocket you can tap it with a 1/4"x20 tap and screw the case out with a 1/4"x20 bolt. You will need a 1/4" or 3/8" drive socket that is slightly larger than the case head, but smaller than the die body to use as a sleeve. Run the bolt with a washer through the socket from the square side and place the opening against the die body and using a 7/16" wrench or socket screw the case out.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Or you could pull the bullets on the factory stuff and load them with your good load. You don't need your sizing die to do that. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice guys. I may indeed pull those bullets. As for using other weights, I don't think I will as this was just a temporary fix anyway. Back to the handloads from here on out.

Thanks

JMO~ I have tried the Fusion in a couple different cal. and none of them were very good results. All the hoop-lah and commerials and pretty boxes, with certain Star Pro-Hunters on T.V using them doesnt make them a great bullet. I always take my bullets to the range and field to see Live results on groups and Game animals to see what the bullets all about. FWIW...years ago there wasnt that many good bullets , and I still killed my share of Deer and other big Game Animals. Don't read to much into stick with your reloads and shoot straight and hunt well...

If you go to MidwayUsa website they have a video on gettinga case unstuck. I did like S4 said and the video shows you how.
