I went to the gun show to look for a 7mm-08 barrel, came home with a 308 and Bushnell 2x6. What load do you like in the 308 for whitetail and for hogs.

I think you will be happy with that .308, very versatile.

My 15" .308 barrel likes 165 gr NBT and Reloader 15.

"My" pet load for my 16.5 Encore in 308 is a 150 SST over 47gr IMR 4895 with a Win primmer at 2650 FPS.

In my 15" Encore .308 it and me both like the .165gr Barnes, Flat shooter - hard hitter!

If I lived in an area where I could carry multiple big game tags (elk and mule deer for example), then I'd be using a 165gr load. But since deer are the only thing on the menu around here, the 125's do GREAT at anchoring them.

My .300 Savage XP-100 uses 150's with great accuracy and the same velocity as a .308W would push them. But expansion of the Remington bullets is less than ideal.

In my '06 with the 15" barrel I use the 150 gr NBT & RL 15. It is devastating on deer.

Hunting with my NEW Competitor .308 with a 15.75" barrel and a brake. 2x-7x Burris Ballistic Plex on top. The Nosler manual states a "most accurate load" of 47.0gr for IMR 4320. It's a 103% compressed load. From rifle handloading I know that "a full case is a HAPPY case". 4320 is about the fastest powder listed for a 150 Accubond. I'm going to try this to perhaps allieviate some of the muzzle flash. It was IMPRESSIVE at 1st firing with some American Eagle 150gr FMJ. All the above loads are going "into the archive". Can't wait to tip over a whitetail with it.

150 BT would get my vote for deer.

I got to the range for the first time yesterday. The 308 with 110 gr Vmax and 125gr BT is very accurate, sub 1" groups at 100yds. But one thing it is a Horse. It is a factory 15" barrel. Recoil is not back in the hand, but it comes up. It will need a brake.
