I posted several days ago regarding my son and his family coming to hunt with me and we had a blessed hunt and unbelievably filled out all four tags: one bull elk and three mule deer bucks. My grandson Nigel is in front, Joe then YT and then Joe's wife Barbara in back. All of the "work" was done by a custom .475 Linebaugh and a T/C Encore in .243. The .243 "only" accounted for one buck. Stories and more pics to follow.

Awful lot of smiling faces there ;-)
Rod, too.

Congratulations Gregg. That is a wonderful photo. Not too many people get an elk like that. I recall chatting with many people on my summer trips out West and I got the impression that getting an elk is a tough thing to do. Am I correct in saying that the average hunter will take a good five years to connect?

Am I correct in saying that the average hunter will take a good five years to connect? Thank you, bigbore44. I guess if you consider the over-all success for Colorado elk is 20%-25% then 5 years is a good estimate on average. What is more important in my opinion is putting in the effort to scout and putting in the effort to hunt hard. A lot of Colorado elk hunters only hunt the first weekend or so. Of course I realize that out of state hunters don't have the opportunity to actually do the scouting physically, but many successful hunters have discovered how to do it with computers and by telephone calls.

Gregg,
Just saw Barbara's deer. I am trying to figure which Colorado zoo you are hunting in ;^) Seriously, fantastic job connecting, and more especially helping others to have a hunt and buck of a lifetime.
Just to add a little more misery to Bigbore's question. I hunted a 1200 acre ranch for a week and never saw so much as a fresh elk track. Two weeks later, yesterday, I went back up for a load of firewood. Elk and deer sign everywhere. When I rolled out, there were half a dozen elk in the lower meadow some bedded, some feeding, not 300 yards from where I had been cutting firewood for several hours.
I swear, I am going to take up golf..........
Craig

Very nice photo and hunts. The trophies are simply the gravy on the meat and potatoes of quality family time.
