I was lucky enough to take 2 bucks today on the 3rd day of the Michigan gun season. I shot them both with my Ruger .480. The smaller one is a busted up 6 pointer, dropped him where he stood. 30 minutes later this 8 pointer came in. He went about 40 yards after the shot.

Way to go. You got lots of help too I see ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Great job...looks like you'll need some of the jerky recipes in the other thread!

The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

Nice! Good to keep the kids involved.

Bullet? Performance? Velocity?

I have a 475 Linebaugh I bought and am interested in bullets people are using.

Congratulations on a great day!

What bullet are you using in the 480?

Thanks everyone! Yes that is the 9.5" Ruger .480 customized by Mag-Na-Port with a JPoint red dot. I used the Hornady 400 gr XTP factory load. That is the same round on sighted it in on and used to take my Wisconsin black bear. So far 3 shots 3 kills. The smaller buck dropped in its tracks. The 8 pointer and bear went about 30-40 yards.

Nice Job, not sure where you're hunting in Mi, public or private, but sometimes you need to leave some to grow.

I hunt private property in Southern Michigan where there is a big deer population. I saw seven differnt bucks and over a dozen does in 3 days of hunting. I dont't think taking 2 deer will hurt the population in my area. My family and I will eat every bit of the meat from those 2 deer. Every deer I take with a bow or gun is a trophy to me. So I left at least 17 deer go to grow and I only hunt a 60 acre piece of property.

Sorry Ty,
Didn't want to imply you were wasteful, my frustration is with the Michigan DNR and their management of our resource. I look at all the bordering states around us and they all have more opportunities for bigger bucks than most have in MI. Why don't they learn from others?

the state of KY used to allow 2 bucks per season many seasons ago. restricting it to one is one of the best things they ever did for deer quality imo. of course you can take a few does....n let the bucks grow.

Kentucky….no place like home.
