Has anyone had any experience reloading this bullet and can it be used in the S&W 460?

ferggie,

I use Barnes Bullets mostly and really like the way they shoot and perform on Game. The Barnes Buster is a Heavy for Caliber bullet that is a lead core copper jacket bullet that they built for Big Game ... Bears, Hogs, Moose, and Bison. I have never used them yet, because I really like the XPB IN MY .460 S&W the hydro-shock it gives an animal is unreal, all of my kills have been one shot kills with the XPB , I use the .275gr. In my .460 S&W.....To answer your question yes you can shoot that bullet in a .460 & your .454. I have a box of the Buster to try I just havnt had a chance to get em ready, and the XPB really shoots great in my gun. I hope this helps , and good luck, happy hunting!

it's a great bullet and really penetrates for days, i personally think it's a great bullet especially for the 454 and more so for the 460. the extra velocity of those rounds tends to deform all but the toughest best cast bullets and often times theres not much improvement on penetration (but adds alot of shock to the animal if the bullet allow the tip to mushroom slightly) the buster as the punch bullet does hold together much better. i've shot it extensively in my FA 454's and i've yet to have it pull crimp and i feel it's easier on the barrel than the brass punch bullets but on that i may be wrong.

it is my go to load for anything above 1200lbs.

I think it's a good and tough bullet, but I wish the meplat was bigger.

Thanks for the help. I have been away from big game hunting for far to many years and have decided to get back into it but only by way of handgun. I shoot IDPA compatition and love the handguns so why not the hunting side. I love this site and all the info available. I am looking forward to the chance to pick the brains on this forum and its wealth of knowledge.
Thanks again for the feedback.
