I got this doe at about 50 yds. 250 gr Hornady XTP HP at 1170 fps. Lung shot and she ran about 100 yds and dropped. No exit wound.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

I smell something on the grill, congrats!

I had to check the safe, I'd swear that was my gun.

Hank,
Great job. Nice to see a 1911 harvest. I would have thought the 250 might have had a chance to pass through. Did you eventually recover the bullet to see what it looked like?

Craig I should have taken the time when I field dressed her. I assume the bullet is out there in the gut pile. I did not really check for exit wound until I was at the processor. I suspect the bullet may have hit far shoulder as she was quartering away a bit. Finger though the entrance wound confirmed bullet entered at an angle.

Congratulations on blooding the Rowland Hank!
Looks like she leaked a bunch on her run to the recovery spot...

The Rowland conversion puts the 1911 into the serious hunting handgun league, in a package that is very portable.
Well done .. Do you plan on trying any cast bullet loads?

Thinking about a 265 gr Beartooth that they have been sizeing .451 that some have been using in the Rowland.

That looks like a good bullet, one caution with semi-wadcutters. You may have to seat the bullet fairly deep and then crimp on the front driving band, to facilitate reliable feeding.

Wtg. Congrats on the first one with the .460. I am betting that one is gonna taste extra good on the grill.

The 265gr Beartooth WFN works perfect in the Rowland when sized .451". It is driving tacks out of mine. See the group in the bragging board shot with the 225gr bearthooth as well. My hunting loads are with the 265gr though. reflex264
