Ok all, awhile ago I was going to get a taurus 454 but I found a great deal on a used bfr in 475. NIB for 500.00. Can't beat that with box etc. Barrel is too long at 8", hate the grips but off the Jack Huntington for a grip makeover and a barrel cut to 5". Anyone ever have work done by Jack? Seems like a great guy and I can't find anyone that has anything bad to say about him. Also, anyone have some LIGHT pet loads for the 475? My fiance wants to shoot it but but she doesn't want the kick. Thanks all.

I have the same revolver - and you stole yours!

A couple of people I highly respect have had Jack do work for them. They recommended him to me for similar work.

Try HS-6, 14.0 grains under about any lead bullet in the 475. In mine, I shoot HS-6 under a 420 WFNGC by Beartooth. It clocks 1050 and is about like a medium 44 mag load. If she's shot bigger revolvers before, it should be OK.

Thank you Plagioclase, I thought that was a pretty good price. It's just way too big at the moment. Thank you for reiterating what I heard about jack. Spoke to him much. Very good guy! Thank you for the load data. I was thinking something even a bit lighter for her... For a working load for me that is a great load! Thank you

Jack does excellent work - you won't be disappointed. I saw a 475 Linebaugh he reworked with an octagon bbl and new grip that he did and it was very nice.

Jack is a very good guy and has even helped me out with stuff for my business. Whitworth has had alot of work done by him and all of it has been excellent.

Sean, Jack has done a boatload of work for me. At the moment I have 5 or 6 customs that he built, including the .500 Maximum below. I highly recommend his work.

Sean - try Trail Boss under those 420's for a light "plinking" load. Can't remember the charge offhand, but makes for a nice low recoiling round in the big boomers.

Yeah, he's the kind of guy that will help with information or in the last case I was looking for a hard to find part in the form of a factory max cylinder. He just happened to have one that had been donated fromt he gun in Whitworths picture. That cylinder is now in a tackdriving 357 Max tearing up the competitive circuit.

Congrats on the 475

For me picking your gunsmith is like picking your tattoo artist, They have to create a piece of art you have in your mind, but you have to connect on the personal level, and for me that connection is a must, and as you said Jack is great to deal with Would recommend him to anyone.
Post picks when you get it back, what did you decide for grips?

Seasons, I am thinking that I want either white grips (faux ivory) or black micarta. Not sure yet. But you are right that they are like tattoo artists and from the long talks I have had with Jack, we are on the same page. Scary. He knew the barrel length I was thinking and all the little things. And I will post the pics for sure.

Wapitirod, That is very cool. I am sure that he treated you pretty well to boot with the price. I have a lot of respect for others like Bowen but their prices are far too high compared to Jack. They both are excellent (have had bowen guns before) but you do pay for the name with Bowen. This is the first by Jack. I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

Sean,
No matter what color you chose I am sure it will look amazing, Whitworth has a really nice set of micartas on his 50 ak give great contrast to the stainless frame you may want to look at for inspiration

This BFR in .500 JRH, belonging to my friend, has the Huntington-modified grip frame with English walnut grips:

This .475 BFR, belonging to the same friend, has the Huntington grip with white Micarta grips:

Changing the grip frame and front sight makes a world of difference to how these revolvers look IMO.
