Well I recieved the 45 colt Bisley 7.5" and it looks great. Over all appearence is very nice although I could do without the scroll work on the cylinder. The throats measured .449 and I have not had a chance to measure the barrel yet. I preformed the poor boys trigger job that yielded the trigger ok... I picked up a box of winchester 250gr cowboy loads, what better way to obtain brass?
First shooting was to sight in since I did'nt have much time. The second time out I shot at 30 yds for groups. Boy was I happy, shooting off my knees I was able to keep most groups to 1.5" or less! Also no leading at all, I was concerned with the relativly tight throats.
I am very happy and hope that my heavier reloads will produce this kind of preformance. I have leadheads 310s and beartooth GC 300s on the way. Now to decide between 2400 or HS-6 for loads around 1100 fps

Looks like you got a shooter. I like HS-6 for not so heavy loads.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Rugers are famous for tight throats, Brownells sells reamers that correct that, and will improve your performance. You may find that with heavier loads with hard cast/jacketed bullets your groups may get a bit larger.

This throat topic has been around a number of the gun/shooting forums.

Yes I fear that. As of right now I have some bullets on the way and I am hoping for the best. If not I will do what I can to make it better!

I dont want to hi-jack your topic - but has anyone ever tried to ream their own cylinder throats? It can't be rocket science but before I try it, I'd like to discuss with someone who's done it.

Reaming you own throats is quite easy to do. A friend of mine who shoots competition with his GP100, discovered that his throats were off and reamed them out. After that process his scores improved substantially.

The main problems with getting the best results out of the .45 Colt is the throat problem and the over sized chambers.

A thought that I have had over time, is to get a .44 Mag. cylinder and have it reamed to the "correct" dimensions for .45 Colt.
