Rod, too.

I love the 57's, I'm still kicking myself for the one I sold in 99.

That is nice. The 41 is underrated in this nation. There seems to be a cult following of the 41 among a group of bear guides in Maine. Many claim it kills quicker.

If they shoot it better than they do the .44 and up it will kill better for them. Bullet placement is everything and not every one shoots as much big bore as some on this site. The .41 is milder in the hand than the .44 and up, thus easier to shoot. A good hit with a .41 kills quicker than a bad hit with something bigger. But I prefer my .45s!!! Very nice revolver and scope setup.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, and I am not picking on bigbore442001s statement. I saw the comment about "kills quicker" and it brought to mind the adds in the old Herters Catalog, this was back in the day when you could still mail order handguns. The Herters catalog had a plethora of stuff, their selection would have put Cabelas to shame. Nearly everything in the catalog was "new and improved". The book was truly a joy to read if for no other reason than the entertainment value. There was a lot of good practical durable stuff, and a great return policy. The ad that stuck in my mind, and I have been a handgun enthusiast for over a half century, was the ad for the Herter's .401 Power Mag. Someplace in the flowery rhetoric of the ad I recall the claim that "it kills quicker"..
I have always felt that handgun hunters and bow hunters have a lot in common, the desire to find a bit more of a challenge.
Again my comment is only for it's entertainment value..

I can load my 45 so it kicks like a 41, so it should kill more quicker, eh? Based on that sentiment, the 357 must the quickest killer of all. Or, perhaps the 32 H&R?
Rod, too.

I think maybe he was referring to the Foggy Mountain Guide service in Maine. They have a few handgun hunting articles on their website, and one of the guides that has been doing it for many years used to use a 357 but failed to stop a bear, then switched to the 41 and hasn't looked back. you can read the story on their website.
Just my guess
"If you are going to go through all the trouble to put a hole in something, why not make it a big one?"

The best load I have ever used in my S&W Mountain Gun was a 255 Grain WFN hard cast. It was accurate deep penetrator and effective on deer.
You can't fix stupid!

I recall hunting Maine in the past for black bear and some guides I know made that statement in general.

Why yes it does. With a glancing shot as well. I use this bugger for killing dinosaurs. It actually shoots like a 41 but with more variety in the component selection department. Despite being... "The fabulous .401 Powermag...is the ideal large caliber revolver cartridge. Will kill any animal on the face of the earth, or shoot through the cylinder block of any automobile. It will flatten any human, no matter where you hit him...This is the finest big game or law enforcement revolver...With this revolver you can hunt deer, and all North American and African game...". By the way its a crisp looking 41 you got.

Had a Desert Eagle in 41, got rid of it because the ammo was hard to find and very expensive. Shot great though. Hopefully you reload.

I often wish I had gotten one of those, if for nothing more than the intrinsic value. Thanks for the picture..
