Do your dies specificly say 480 or 475/480? I'm guessing the former. I've never tried sizing a 475 with a 480 die but the only problem I could possibly see would be if the die won't go down to the rim. You shouldn't have any problems with the expander or seater though.

i loaded all my 480's with hornady 475 linebaugh dies, and shot them in 480's and 475's no problems what so ever. its like putting a .38 in a .357

You cant shoot a big one, if you shoot a little one first.......

loading 480's in the 475's isn't a problem but he's talking the reverse of that, loading 475's with 480 dies which would be like loading 357 with 38's or 454's with 45LC dies, some work some don't. I tried two different sets of 45LC dies on my 454's while I was waiting for new dies and neither one would size the full length.

It may depend on the brand of dies. I have RCBS 357 Mag and 357 Max die sets and both use the same FL die.

exactly, just have to experiment but I like to have a set of dies for each cartridge anyways, then I'm not having to reset any of the dies when I switch back and forth.

The older dies are only for the 475 Linebaugh. RCBS started making dies that could resize both calibers later on after the 480 came on the scene. If they are RCBS dies, and you have the box. They should say if you can reload both with that die.

If they're long enough for the Linebaugh they will do the Ruger, but the crimp die may need some trimming if too long. If for the Ruger, I don't know that that last 1/8" of the Linebaugh case really needs massaging but one will have to see.

it will depend on the chamber, the 454's I did with the 45LC dies wouldn't chamber or would hard to chamber in my revolvers because of the last little bit not being sized.

Perhaps the higher pressure of the Casull prompted that. I know lots of folks that load the SuperMags with standard magnum dies. I did until I came across a Maxi die set, now I can leave things set up for both.

yeah, I think it just depends on the brand of dies, the chamber of the gun and other variables. The only way to know to try and if it doesn't work by some 475 dies.
