Anyone have comments about any of the clamp on revolver mounts..?

I've never actually seen one these. Where did you come across this? It sounds interesting..

I've tried the weaver for blackhawks and they don't work except on very mild recoiling guns. I had one on a 357 and a 41 and it held but when I went up to 44 mag and hot 45LC it would slip. It also marked up the gun on the latter two. I was using them as a temporary way of mounting a scope to test loads.

I was a bit afraid that was the case I had found some reviews, that indicated slippage and damage to the gun finish.

Any thoughts on the "weigand" mount. I have a 5.5" Redhawk that I would like to scope.

I guess my other option would be to have the rib machined to accept the Ruger rings.

years ago I used a no drill/tap made by B-square. It feathered a collar that slipped over the barrel, then a solid mount that bolted to the collar and the exsisting rear sight screw holes. I used it for four years on a 7 1/2" 45c blackhawk. Removed it from the blackhawk and installed it on a single-six and is where it stayed for 9 years; I sold the single-six and keep the mount. I had to make a differedt sized collar for the single-six. It was not the most appealing mount, but the guns didn't have to be altered. I never had any problems with the mount. That said, I was not shooting the "hot/heavy Ruger only loads" in the blackhawk.

It looks like the one you posted from Midway. Mine is for a Blackhawk; your example is for a Redhawk. You didn't say what flavor your gun is; I assumed blackhawk.

I still have the mount; if you would like to give one a try before you buy one, I could send it to you. Just let me know.

I believe that I tried the mount you mentioned on a 28 S&W back around 1980. As I recalled it worked just fine. Do you know if that mount is still available??

I had thought of getting a mount for both my RH and BH.

I have mounts for my mod 28s and 29s, just never got around to scoping a Ruger.

PM me your email and I'll dig it out and take a pic. Mine is blued, not stainless. I'm not sure if its still made or not; I bought this one in mid 80's.

if your talking about the Weigand drill and tap model that is my favorite. I've put alot of them on for customers and on my own guns. The leupold mount I don't care for because you can only use two rings and it sets the scope too far back. There is a Weigand base for the Redhawks and Blackhawk hunter that I believe is no drill. It uses the rear sight screw and it hooks into the front sight ramps. If your talking smith and wesson the Warne bases are probably the nicest.

I would go with the Weigand on both of your Rugers.

Thanks one an all for all of the input, I am leaning toward the WEIG-A-TINNY , configuration for my Redhawk.

I have a weigland mount on my Ruger Redhawk 44mag and have had no troubles with it. It has been on there for 3 years,and about 250rds.

I sort of have/had a Weigand mount on my Super Blackhawk Hunter.
Over the last 2 years (3-400 rounds) the gun has been shot with pretty much only heavy 300-320gr loads at or near top velocity. Over that time, the mount began a gradual creep forward on the barrel as the roll pins that engage the barrel slots began to deform and collapse. This continued until the washers on the screws wedged into the edge of the crescent cutouts on the side of the barrel. I working with Weigand to get this mount replaced.

I think that if you were going to shoot mid level loadings all of the time, it would be fine, however if you like to load up to the upper end for the .44 Mag then you are likely to have problems.
