Guys to make this as short and sweet as possible I will leave out all of the travel details. We hunted the Rooiport Game Preserve which is located about 50-60 miles from Kimberly, South Africa. The preserve covers over 100,000 acres and is owned by the De Beers mining company.
The outfitter we used was Madubula Safaris operated by John Abraham Madubula Safaris . Everything about Johns outfit is top notch from the cooks to the tents to the PH's. The hunting method was the usual spot and stalk method.
I took two handguns and one rifle with me on this trip. The handguns were a Contender in 378 GNR and a 510 Hunter in 510GNR both by Gary Reeder. I used the 510 hunter on a huge blue wildebeest. I shot the wildebeest at 95 yds, The ph had my range finder and measured the distance right before I shot. He ran about 40 yds and piled up. I was shooting the 435 gr Cast Performance wlngc ahead of 33 grains of H4227 which equals the 500 linebaugh.
The contender brought down a blesbok and a 39" gemsbok. The blesbok was shot at around 120 yds. I pulled the shot and had to shoot him again somewhere in the vicinity of 200 yds and that was it for him. The Gemsbok was shot close to 70 yds and was stopped with one shot. I was using the Hornady 270 gr spirepoint with 56 grains of IMR 3031. This load chronographs at 2085 fps.
The rifle I took was a CZ 550 in .375H&H. We all know how cheating with a rifle makes everything easy so I will just tell everybody I took a zebra, a 4 7/8" steenbok and a 51" cape kudu all with one shot from 120 to 200 yds.
John puts on a great hunt and it is well worth the money spent. That coupled with a bunch of great guys makes the reason I love to hunt.

Glad to hear everything worked out well for ya. Those GNR's work great, eh. I am a big fan of GNR's myself.

Sounds Awesome. You're privledged to get into Rooipoort. Theydont let anyone in there. (no they don't let the likes of me in ) Says a lot for your outfitter.

NOW - You shot a 51" what? Man thats great. I am going for the third attempt at getting close enough to handgun a Kudu before it knows I'm there.

Just took a look at the bragging board. That looks like one monster kudu. Countryside looks very open, must have been tough stalking them.

RSA,

The terrain was very open. The problem with the kudu is that they were staying in the hills and were always watching us from above. We could park the truck a mile away and they would get nervous at that. I could not get close enough to him with a handgun so I had to smoke that one with a rifle. He looked to good to pass up.
That was the only regret of the whole trip' not shooting him with a handgun.

Awesome none the less. They are rather sneaky animals. Spent two days last year chasing them arcoss the countryside. Lost a lot of weight but didn't get any Kudu.

One more week and I'm off after them again. I guess I am a little fixated on them.
