Is a 10mm a good round for hogs? I have a line on a Glock 10mm with extended barrel and just wonder how well that would work.

You can kill a hog with even less than a 10, but I would rather have a little more.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

10mm will work fine. Reload for it or use brands like buffalo bore

DOAGuide

There are some commercially available loads for the 10mm, that have a 230 gr. hard cast bullet at nearly 1200 fps. Not too much below standard .44 mag., loads.

That will work just fine for pigs.

Buffalo Bore makes a 220 gr. hard cast and DoubleTap provides a 230 gr. WFNGC hard cast that have shot well in my 10mms. I wouldn't hesitate to use either on hogs/deer.

I have used mine for deer and hogs. It's a good round for still hunting hogs in the thick stuff but I wouldn't want it for hog hunting from a stand unless it was setup for close shots like if you were bow hunting. I like the xtp's and remington hollow points in mine but they expand too fast on hogs. They still work fine for meat hogs but don't penetrate good enough for larger boars. That is with 180 grain loads. I haven't got to experiment much with the 200 grain loads but plan to this spring. I am using a factory barrel so I can't play with cast yet but may in the future. I really like mine for still hunting or hunting out of my climber in the thick stuff but wouldn't consider it a good all around hunting setup.

"Hogs" is a pretty general term. Can you define that a little, ie: Russian, feral, Javalina, just plain wild? While all are fast on their feet, most, if not all, are mean, some meaner than others. Russians for example are called the poor mans grizzly? Some wild hogs can go upwards of 400 pounds.

I've killed several hogs; however, all were shot with a rifle. My first pig kill with a handgun is still in the feature.

Having shot my two 10's a lot, I don't know about one of them being the last thing between me and a 300# porker. I think I'll stick with either a 41M or 44M. I just tend to get nervous about things like that.

I have been using a 200 gr. xtp and 8.4 grs. IMR 800X in my Colt Delta Elite and it has worked great. I recovered a bullet last season that hit on point of shoulder and i found it under the hide on the offside behind ribs. Looked like a magazine picture of a perfect mushroom
