Any one every had SBH cylinder get a hairline crack from factory 44 mag ammo? If so any dealings with Ruger customer service?

I had a chipped cylinder in my SRH 454 Casull. The factory replaced it no questions ask.My gun was shipped and back to me within two weeks. Very nice people to deal with also!!!

Send it back, they will replace it.

I have a SBH I bought used and the barrel twisted in the frame and broke the screw that holds the ejector rod housing on. I sent it back to Ruger and in about two weeks I got it back with a new barrel, ejector rod, and housing at only shipping to them. Yes, I believe they will stand behind their products.

They have excellent customer service and should take care of it without a hassle. I am surprised that it cracked from factory ammo, they are way overbuilt and will withstand pressures well in excess of recommended load levels. In fact the gun has to be safe to twice the industry approved pressure limits.

Got message back from Ruger won't replace cracked cylinder due to drilling and tapping gun for scope mounts....$370 will send a new SBH.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the problem at hand. That is a pitiful response, but tis the chance we take when we tinker.

Gonna call tomorrow and see how much for upgrade to SBH hunter version so i don't have to drill and tap new one

That is stupid, have you considered having a gunsmith just put a new/used cylinder in the gun? If they have a take off it should be a lot cheaper than 370.00. I was selling take offs for 50.00-75.00 and most of the time they didn't need much fitting so another 50.00 in labor on average.

i would try talking to someone else. that sounds kind of bogus to me.

I had one of those and just couldn't get used to the scope being on the barrel. Other than that it was a nice gun, and accurate. It would be great if you could try one before you buy one.

I agree. Maybe you just talked to the wrong person. It's happened before.

Try giving a call around to some of the smiths that do the big bore conversions (Harton, Bowen, Huntington, Reeder, etc...) One of them is bound to have a take out cylinder in .44 laying around that you could probably purchase. A local smith could fit it for you, if it isn't a drop in fit.

Looks to be one of the transitional new model cylinders with the recessed case heads.

I understand Ruger doesn't tolerate modifications of any type. Spoke to a guy who lost the parts of a modification to his Ruger Hunter .22 LR. They replaced the parts, charged him for it and kept the commercial parts. Hope you find a cylinder and get it fitted.

Get the old cylinder returned cut the back end off, add cut cases and weld it into a nice belt buckle.
