I just picked one of these up in a trade and am wondering if anybody has one and what they feed it with.

My main concern is will it handle the hot 240s and 300s. Any imput is appreciated even if it is to just say ouch those loads would hurt.

I don't own one but I talked to a smith rep a while back and from what he said the gun will handle the same loads as the 629 but your hand might not.

I have one. I brought it home, shoved 2 full house rounds in it, took it outside shot it and cut my hand. This was with the wood grips. I now have the rubber grips on there and no more blood.I did try more full power loads. After shooting I decided that I would use 44 special loads for plinking and save the big stuff for my other 44s. I think a day at the range shooting full loads with this thing is brutal. The intended purpose was to make a light carry gun, they did that well. Not good for a plinking gun. Would I ever try 300gr bullets in it. Maybe.
As the gunrag guys say it is a gun to carry alot and shoot a little.

Thanks guys, thats what I got it for. A deer hunting gun and a carry gun when I am in the woods. I have shot some 240's around 1300fps and the wood grips hurt.

I use 9g of Unique w/ a Oregon Trail 300g bullet for 1000 fps. It does move the gun but not as bad as the 240g factory load. I have Pachmayr decelerators on my gun and have had the trigger rounded.
