Was so happy with the last boar I took that I had to go for another. This one was a little bigger then the last. Again, used the S&W 657 with handload of 210XTP over H-110.
However, my shooting was not as good. First shot looking down at 45 to 50 was high over lungs. 2nd shot at 50 dropped the boar
but was to far back and he got back to his feet and took off. Chased em and put two more 201XTP`s into the right spot finish the hunt.Damage to the lungs from the XTP`s is shown. All four bullets exited....The skinning rack showed that there were a number of happy pig hunters.

Congrats James! That's a great hog. I'm glad that you were able to seal the deal on him. I'm also glad to see you totin' that Smith! I love my 7.5" 657 but it remains unblooded as of yet.

All of my .41 Mag harvests have been with my 9" Contender and I've been very impressed with its killing ability.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Darrell, That is one good revolver. I added a pair of Herretts grips along with a Bowen rear sight and a little white-out to the front sight and when you add the great single action trigger I found this to be a super hunting handgun...

Congrats, James! Didn't know you could shoot a Smith!

That's a very good looking boar.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Very nicely done, I have always though there should have been more interest in the .41. Glad to see folks out there with "traditional gear", no scopes or bipods...!!!

James, Nice shooting, I always love hunting pigs. Is that Tioga? I think I've seen that skinning pole at least once myself..

linebaugh/racksmasher, I hunted Tioga, which is fenced, but far from what people called a "canned hunt" reguardless of what anyone might say. Time and money well spent.....

It is a fun place to go I agree James. Makes me want to go down there again, after looking at your photo's. I actually just sent out for my Pa. pistol permit. Hopefully I'll be able to go down there soon with my 475 Linebaugh, and give her a first kill.

James,

Even though I am a FA addict, I also have an old M657 that has had some work done on it. It will almost rival my FA 41s. It has accounted for several head of game animals over the years. It was my "first" hunting revolver.

Do you use the 41??? Whats your bullet of choice?? I have handloaded four different bullets in my 41`s. 1) Nosler 210gr JHP 2) XTP 210gr 3) Swift 210gr 4) Mt Baldy 220gr Keith. The jacketed bullets all shot good while I only loaded the cast to the 900-1000FPS area..To be honest I always carry a small leather sandbag in my pack to rest my handgun when in the sitting position to keep the cylinder blast from cutting my pants and to steady the shot. That day there was no time to get into a sitting position and the tree helped steady the gun..PS- forgot about the Reminton 200gr JHP handload..

James,

I am well & trust that you are the same. The old Remington 200 HP or 210 SP works very well in my 657. I load XTPs for my FAs and load them a little hotter than I like to shoot in the Smith. Therefore, I load the Remington SP for the Smith. I can tell at a glance whether it is a FA load or a Smith load.
