The 17 Winchester super magnum. Personally I can't wait to get my hands on one with this little thing shooting 3000 fps with a 20gr, and 2600 fps with a 25gr. They need to hurry up and bring the thing to the market.

Another 17?

Rod, too.

3000fps with a 17cal 20gr bullet....rimfire/no reloading....i could see this being very useful to some people, IF the price were cheap enough vs buying other factory centerfire rounds.

the 17HMR was very popular when introduced, yet underpowered for medium size varmints/predators imo. the 17m2 is small enough to use on small game, yet was not as popular. i love the lil 17m2 in my 12 1/2" contender. good shooter for those times you want to shoot and not reload, plus a good lil squirrel gun to boot.

i would think it would be ideal for those lucky enough to prairie dog hunt?....or the varmint hunter that does not reload?....or?

more options/choices are good imo.

It fills a notch, just not mine... LOL

Between my:
22 Short-14in Contender
22 Long-10in Contender
22 K-Hornet-14in Contender
22 Hornet-15in Encore

"I" don't need another varmint rig. But what I have fills my needs and not everyone else's.

We'll see how long it lasts. Think about the 5mm Mag. It is very similar to this one. It to was bigger in diameter than the 22mag case and required a special action that was stronger than the standard rimfires. It there are multiple companies that build guns for it then it has a chance.

I love 17's. Personally I think it would have been better if they loaded 25gr HP's instead of the vmax. If they got 2800fps with the 25 hp then it would have been an awesome fox gun.

I am all for the gun companies making new things for us consumers. Then we can sort it out. The 17 centerfires do have followings, but they seem to be more cult type, with reloading being mandatory. I think this thing could have a place, if the ammo is reasonable. If they price the ammo up with centerfire 17's, probably not gonna do well. If they can keep it closer to 17hmr, it might work out.

I am a pretty avid varmint shooter, and belong to the VHA. In our bi-monthly publication, there sure has been a lot of interest in less than 22-250/Swift cartridges for quite a few years now. Heck, we even have many Air Gun articles these days. maybe it is a lot of the shooting generations getting older, but definately a trend towards less recoil and noise. We have had a bit of a prairie dog invasion up at the ranch, and I know I really like banging away with my 17hmr.

Since I really like the 17Mach2 , this does make sense to me. The regular 17 HMR was too much for squirrels and not enough for Ghogs or yotes past 100 yards. So something between my M2 and say .223 or 22-250 could be useful. I suppose it all depends how far you typically shoot.

That's a huge gap.....M2 to .223? Something like a .17 Mach IV (also called the .17 Fireball) would fit that bill nicely and load can be tailored to your gun versus having to buy one specific brand of rimfire ammo to suit your needs. Also, you can rebarrel to whatever you like if the tube goes south.
