Hello to all, My name is Adam King. I am from the shenandoah valley in Va. Been a long time enthusiast for handgunning but never had a nice specialty pistol until recently. I purchased an xp-100r in .260 rem. I have always enjoyed long range shooting with rifles but when I bought a couple boxes of fed premiums while waiting on all my new components for hand rolling I managed to ring my 300yd 9x12 steel first time after some quick chrono work....... Well I found the cliff and as I am plummeting off can't help but wonder what I have been missing all these years!! The current set-up.... box stock xp with leupy bases and an older burris 3-12x 32mm scope. It's a 1:9 twist so I am assuming staying around 130 and below should work with bullet weights. I have looked into having burris put target turrets on the scope, pillar bedding the action finding a good load. That being said, any load info would be great for this caliber in shorter (than 16") bbls and of course any other ideas or suggestions for this new toy. Thanks, Adam

Welcome! I'm over in Indiana County.
I shoot a Striker w/ McGowan 17" .260 Remington. H414 and 120gr SMK's shoot well, not great but well enough...sub-2" at 300yds. I'd like to try the 123gr A-Max when I run out of SMK's.

bowstryder,
First off, WELCOME ABOARD!
You will probably find that several members here shoot the XP's. And the 260 Remington is a great cartridge; especially if you work up special handloads for your particular pistol.
Ernie (a regular on here) would have some good ideas for accurizing the XP-100 action; plus some good advice on load data for the pistol length barrel.

Bowstryder,
Congrats on your XP! I don't shoot the .260, but I have 6 other firearms in .264, so I'll give my advice on bullet selection...
I've had good luck on deer sized game with the Hornady 129 gr SST bullet in the 6.5/270JDJ. I would relate its toughness to the Nosler BT. Big exits when pushed fast out of the suped-up JDJ.
I'll be working up loads in a new-to-me 6.5JDJ in the Contender this offseason. Going to be working with the 120gr Nosler BT.
The 130 gr Accubond worked well last week for me in the 6.5/284 XP - it was on the recommendation of Doc Rogers and gasixgunner - it is their favorite bullet in that chambering and worked for me on some nice sized boars. Doc used it to take up to kudu-sized animals in Africa.
Lastly, depending on your game pursued, I would stay away from the 123 A-Max. I took a couple of deer with it and a hog on a recent TX trip - the bullet is a little too soft for the 6.5 Grendel velocities when encountering big bone, so I feel it would be the same outcome with your XP. A high shoulder shot took down a medium sized Texas deer, but the bullet was in a bunch of pieces during the butchering process. However, shots behind the shoulder worked perfectly.
Best of luck, and welcome!

130 Accubonds, 120 BTs, and 120 Sierra Game Kings will handle everything you want to shoot. You're just across the myn. from me. PM me your address and maybe our paths will cross.

bowstryder,
Welcome, I'm just bout 45 mins from you I live just the other side of the Blue Ridge Mt. I shot a 15" .260 Rem Encore and love it. My go to bullet is the 120gr. TTSX from Barnes, I've taken game out to 425 yds with one shot with this set-up. I know a lot of people dont like the Barnes, but the hydroshock they give an animal is Awesome you can see it thru the scope on some shots. I have shot the 120 Nosler BT and I like those too, my other favorite is a 130 berger it does a great job on Deer at long range and thats what the .260 Rem is for. I would stay away from the A-max from Hornady. Just my Opinion.
