Just talked to one of their reps. I don't have the Hornady load data book so thought I would give them a shout. Very helpful.

I have a box of 270gr SPRP Interlocks, CCI200 LR primers, H4895 powder.

They recommend a AOL of 2.975" and a load of 43.9gr (1700fps) to 48gr (2000fps)

Does this sound about right to you guys? I'm probably going to start midway (46gr) with the loads. Not worried about longrange potential as this loading will just be for hogs in the 200-400# range and under 100 yards.

Do you have a chrono or access to one? Reason I ask is I ALWAYS got higher velocities at acceptable pressures with other powders than H4895. To answer your question I was able to achieve a little over 2100fps out of my SSK barrel. Probably going to be a little less from a factory barrel. Hope this helps.

I do have a chrono and light kit. My barrel is a T/C "performance shop" barrel and muzzle break.

The TC Custom Shop barrels are nice! Just remember that if you have a 14in barrel with brake the riffling is only somewhere around 12 ish inches. FWIW

Ps. Can you post a picture of your barrel?? We like eye candy around here. LOL

Hold on tight ;-)

If you haven't shot these heavy hitters it might behoove to start at the beginning. If you already know, I would do the same.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

The barrel is a 15" with muzzle brake. I have shot a 460 before and it wasn't too bad. I'm a pretty big guy and like heavy recoil lol. Guess I'm gonna be testing those limits, lol. I just finished loading 45, 45.5, 46, 46.5 and 47gr. 5 of each to test accuracy. Now to get range time. Hopefully this weekend.

Shot all the loads and settled on 46.5gr. got 1.25" group at 50 which will be plenty good enough for this hog hunt. I will work on load development more when I return from the hunt.

Recoil was surprisingly pleasant. Have put about 25 rounds through it and have no issues with the recoil.

Love these guns

If you get a chance try some 260gr Accubonds, nothing wrong with what your using but I found the Accubonds to be more accurate, faster (jacket composition) and of course they have a bonded core so jacket seperation isn't an issue as it is with the Hornady. I've used that bullet in three 375JDJ's and a 375 RUM and it worked great in all. In the different barrels I was getting anywhere from 2100 to 2300fps which shows how much barrels can affect velocity and in the RUM I ran her to 3200.

I tried to find some of the Accubonds but everyone was sold out. I plan to get some to test in the near future. Got me thinking about elk!!!!

I used a 180gr Accubond on a 5x6 at 250yds out of my 300 Win Mag Encore pistol. Worked nice.

Guys, check out the bragging board and my 6x6 that I took at 175 yards with a 375JDJ and 285 Speer Grand Slams. The 375 is very easily controllable. Mine is a 15" SSK with JD's arrestor brake and a 2x Leupold.

I have used 47.5 grs of H4895 with a 270 gr Hornady bullet in 375 JDJ for about 10 yrs, its accurate and has always done the job. I use a 16.25 in. encore bull barrel myself. JMHO

I did not have much expansion with the accubonds in my test with my 375JDJ. I have been using the Hornady 220gr FPSP with good success. It has worked well on hogs and deer this season. I will be trying the 270 Hornady bullets the next trip to the range over 48 grains for H4895. Not sure how they will expand though. Need to get some more wet phone books and card board. Gotta love the 375 JDJ it can do anything accurately. Anybody seen a mammoth lately. LOL
