I just bought a Taurus 44SS6 (ported) and plan to carry it as my backup gun. I will be using this for up close hogs (40 yards) in the 75-150# range. Also used for those "Oh HECK" moments when I need to stop something quick!

What do you think folks??

A JSP or hardcast 240 grains and up, pushed 1000 fps or more will do just fine. Now heavier is great and velocity is great, but accuracy is much mo' betta. You should have absolutely no problem finding a load. Personally I would not load the Taurus up to super D dupper levels as I have "heard" of issues with Taurus. With that being said the only Taurus handguns I have shot were a 40 cal auto and a 22 double action. Both were fine firearms in my opinion so don't take me as a brand brasher.

Don't take this wrong, but I wouldn't be holding a Taurus. Make sure you give it a good workout before you go trusting your life to it. 14 grains of HS-6 behind a 240 or 250 would be a nice so-so load.

Rod, too.

DOA, I just bought one too. 4". That grip had to go though. Hogue monogrip is on it now, (rubber). A lot nicer.

This is an early (1994) Taurus made in Bazil. Seems pretty solid and the guy who sold it said it was a shooter. Guess time will tell.

I plan to. I found some 300gr corbons at a local store and will have to shoot those. I can't find ANY primers ANYWHERE. I even offered a friend a shot at my sister and he still wouldn't give any up. I bought 1000 LR last week and it ended up costing close to $100. Now I can't even find a crappy deal anywhere.

WHEN WILL WE FIND PRIMERS AGAIN??????

Ha. Same thing in 2008. I suspect they will come back, only they will cost more than Nov.2012 price.

I pretty much stocked up (loaded ammo, powder, bullets, even some new brass, all calibers I own) for the rest of my life in 2008, except I could have used more primers too.

255cpb with 8.5grs unique or u-clays. No problem on 400lbs. reflex264

I found some primers! Also loaded up some 300gr XTP's over 18.5 gr of H110. Hopefully I will get a chance to shoot them tomorrow during a long day at the range

Where are primers going for that much? Still around the 35 buck range here in Idaho. And plenty of them at the established stores.

I personally like to load for the worst case scenario. You never know what you will encounter out there. I would load a heavy bullet at moderate velocities. The load doesn't have to be hot to work like gangbusters.

I ordered them from a store back east and had to pay their shipping charge on top of the $27 HAZMAT charge. So after all was said and done it was just shy of a hundo.

I have since found some at a local club that are normally priced.

I loaded a 300gr XTP over 18gr of H110. Was the low end for powder charge but my Taurus shot it the best of all the loads. I also loaded some 225gr Barnes XPB over 20.6gr of H110. I figure this load will be for some smaller hogs.
