Well I finally did it. I killed a nice 8 point this morning with my 30-30 contender. I had mixed results in the past with factory. Since I started reloading I loaded some with 150 grain nosler ballistic tips over some imr 3031. I don't remember how many grains. It performed flawlessly. I was worried about the ballistic tip not passing through. No issue! I shot the buck slightly quartering to me just in front of his should and it exited the off side behind the shoulder. He ran a little but to me and dropped with in sight. I will post picture on bragging board. I haven't figured out how to post to threads yet. It was also one of my longest shots with pistol at 80 yards.

I hunt in louisiana and the season closes January 20 for guns and January 31 for primitive weapon (very liberal definition of primitive). Some areas are open till mid February. Our primitive weapons include a breech loading single shot rifle .35 caliber or larger. So a 35 Whelen Encore is considered primitive. Go figure. I am going to lobby the wildlife commision this spring to allow handguns during this time.

Congrats! Yeah, I remember when they changed the rules there in MS to include the 45-70 and such. Where bouts are you in LA?
